Bible verse ideas for a wedding

Bible verse ideas for a wedding

It's interesting:
"I remember the last wedding I went to. It was in the function room of the Tate Gallery. The groom got plastered and ended up with red wine, gravy ..."

A wedding is often more than a union of two people. For many people, it is also a religious event associated with their faith. For this reason, the bride and groom will often choose to quote a few verses from the Bible. Or the parents might read some verses at the reception. If you are choosing verses, there are several types you can choose from.

  1. Man and Woman

    • You might select some verses from the book of Genesis. Some of the references to the creation of a mate for man would be appropriate, such as Genesis 2:18, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." Or you might use Genesis 2:23, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh- she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man."

    Meaning of Love

    • Verses about the concept of love as expressed in the Bible are also an excellent choice for a wedding. Examples would be Corinthians 7:1, "Love is always patient and kind- it is never jealous- love is never boastful or conceited- it is never rude or selfish- it does not take offense, and is not resentful." The value of love is shown later in Corinthians 13:13, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

    Purpose of Marriage

    • Quotes related to the purpose of marriage would also be apropos, such as Mathew 19:4-6 -- "'Haven't you read,' he replied, 'that at the beginning the Creator "made them male and female," and said, "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh"? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.'" Another good choice would be Deuteronomy 24:5, "If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him. For one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married."

    Journey Through Life

    • Some verses relate to a couple's journey through life together and their commitment to their faith, such as Genesis 1:28, "God blessed them, saying to them, 'Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and conquer it. Be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven and all living animals on the earth." You could also quote Joshua 24:15, "But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
