Decoration ideas for a nightmare before christmas birthday cake

Decoration ideas for a "nightmare before christmas" birthday cake

It's interesting:
"The best man at my own wedding told me that one and it worked - for 15 years anyway, before she left me for someone short, fat and balding, who happened to ..."

"The Nightmare Before Christmas" is a Tim Burton-directed movie that tells the story of Jack Skellington and other characters living in Halloween Town. The stop motion film has a number of followers that opt for cakes featuring the characters for their special events.

Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Use Round Cakes

    • Turn a plain, round cake into a Jack Skellington cake. Jack is best known for his crooked smile and black eyes, both of which are made with black frosting. It takes a lot of black food coloring to tint white frosting black and it gives the frosting a slightly bitter aftertaste. Use black food gel or opt for ready-made black frosting. Decorate the round cake with plain vanilla frosting and set in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, giving the frosting time to set. Pipe a black smile onto his face, making a curved line that stretches from one side of the cake to the other. Add stitch marks to the smile and make two slashes for his nose. Pipe ovals onto his face for his eyes and fill in with more frosting.

    Tiered Cakes

    • For a tiered "Nightmare Before Christmas" cake, decorate each layer with a different color or pattern. For a black, white and gray cake that mimics the colors of the movie, decorate one layer with stripes, one with dots and a third with squiggles.

    Cupcake Cakes

    • Make edible decorations that mimic scenes and features from the movie, using fondant. Carved pumpkins, headstones and yellow moons remind guests of a scene from the movie. Decorate two cupcakes to look like Jack and Sally. Arrange those cupcakes in the center of the cake, with the other cupcakes placed on the top, bottom and sides.

    Cake Decorations

    • Turn any cake into a "Nightmare Before Christmas" cake with cake toppers depicting characters and scenes from the movie. Check with your local cake supply store or cake decorating store for the pieces. You can also have an image from the movie printed onto edible paper at a bakery. Place the image or cake topper on an otherwise plain cake and create your own homemade version.
