Uncle D's Comedy Underground
Despite its name, Uncle D's Comedy Underground is actually upstairs at the Bluz at the Bend music club and restaurant. Every Friday and Saturday, from September to June, regional and national comedy acts, such as Dean Austin, Zaq Bell and Dan Cummins have Uncle D's audiences blowing their drinks out their noses. On Thursdays, Open Mic night affords the audience not only the opportunity for comic surprise (both pleasant and otherwise) but also lets audience members "critique" the performers, often after a beer or two. If you feel like you have the chops for comedy, just sign up to perform at least half an hour before the show starts.
The Blue Door Theatre
The Blue Door Theatre offers improvised sketch comedy shows every Friday and Saturday night. Performances are all 100 percent improvised and typically key off a theme that is announced prior to the show. The audience participation aspect of the Blue Door's comedy makes the performance more of an activity than a show. The Friday night shows are cleaned up so that you can bring the entire family for an evening of laughter. If you'd like to try what the performers are doing, the Blue Door Theatre also offers improv classes throughout the year.
Other Venues
With the 2008 closure of The Brickwall, Spokane's only full-time comedy club, the City's industrious comedians and booking agents have turned to more creative means to get their humor to the people. Squeaky's Comedy hosts shows at area restaurants and other venues that it promises are PG-rated. Known for its 5-for-5 Saturday Night Specials, Squeaky's shows draw from the local comedy talent pool to offer five comedy acts for a $5 ticket. Not to be outdone, the Season Ticket Sports Bar goes head to head with comedy competition through its Chuckles Comedy Club. Having rankled competitors with a gloves-off advertising campaign, Chuckles features local and national acts on Friday and Saturday nights.
