Wedding photography checklist for pictures at ceremony

Though it is important for couples to discuss with their photographer the photographs they want captured during their wedding ceremony, professional wedding photographers should always keep a checklist of must-have pictures to photograph at the ceremony to make sure that the couple has plenty of beautiful memories to look back on for years to come.

1. At the Ceremony Site

   • Photographers should make sure to get great pictures of the ceremony site, so the couple can remember the way the site itself looked, memorializing the place where they were joined together in marriage. A photographer should take pictures of the site including the outside the ceremony site, whether it be the outside facade of a church, or the set-up of the wedding in a beautiful garden- the ceremony site without guests, photos of the decorations- close up photos of the wedding programs, and guests as well as the bride and groom arriving to the site.

   During the Ceremony

   • Photographers should make sure to get shots during the ceremony, including pictures of the musicians, guests, parents, groom and groomsmen and all of the bridal party that walks down the aisle including bridesmaids, ring bearers and flower girls. Shots of the bride and her father entering the ceremony, the bride being given away, and candid close ups of the bride and groom beginning the ceremony should also be captured.

   After the Ceremony

   • After the ceremony, photographers should be sure to take photographs of the reception, the receiving line, the bride and groom being congratulated by guests, leaving the church, and leaving the church in their vehicle of choice. Make sure to capture when the bride throws the bouquet to her bridesmaids, as well as when guests throw confetti or bird seed as the bride and groom are leaving.

   Tips

   • Make sure to get plenty of close-up photographs of the bride and groom at ever point in the ceremony, along with pictures of the altar and the rings if possible. Photos of the guest book and the marriage license are also good ideas.
