Shower ideas for a couple's celtic wedding
It's interesting:"Sorry if the speeches drag on. Wedding receptions can be a bit like an X Factor results show. You just want to skip through the talky bits to find out ..."
A couple with ties to Celtic nations and nations with Celtic ancestry such as Ireland, Portugal, Scotland, Spain and the Isle of Man and Brittany may want to incorporate Celtic symbols, food and traditions into a wedding shower. A wedding shower does not have to be completely Celtic, but it can incorporate a few Celtic elements that will honor the couple's ancestry and make them feel at home.
Scene Creation
Use celtic symbols to decorate your house or party space. Set up celtic cross statues in varying heights on the food buffet bar. For Scottish couples, consider using tartan tablecloths or table runners. Fill your house with candlelight. Play Celtic music in the background as partygoers eat and drink.
Food
Incorporate a few Celtic-inspired dishes into the main shower fanfare. You do not have to cook and bake an entire Celtic menu. Provide standard shower food such as cake and quiche and salad, but also consider making potato dishes, Welsh cakes, Scotch eggs and Irish stew--all Celtic foods according to The Vancouver Sun. Cider also is a nice Celtic addition.
Knots
Celtic knots are a common symbol used in Celtic weddings. Incorporate some of the more well-known knot designs, such as the "Eternity Knot" or the "Lover's Knot." The "Heart Knot" also is an appropriate knot to incorporate. "Heart knots are a rather recent addition to Celtic symbolism," writes Celt Arts on its website. "Hearts as symbols of 'love' date from the later medieval period but have become an established part of the contemporary Celtic repertoire in the last decade of the 20th century." Have some of the knots printed on custom cocktail napkins or have them printed on the invitations. Another option is to have a baker make a custom cake with a Celtic knot or top trays of cupcakes with sugared knots.
Games
Get guests involved in a "Highland Games" pop quiz game that is centered around questions about the couple. There are several ways to organize the game, but one way would be to get all the guests to write down a question about the couple. Mix Celtic trivia in with the questions. Then, take turns asking the bride and groom the questions individually. Award bonus points for correct Celtic trivia answers.
