You've decided to tie the knot with your loved one and you're going to have the ceremony in South Carolina. Before you say the "I do's," there are certain marriage license requirements in South Carolina.

Each county in South Carolina has a Probate Courthouse where you'll find the Marriage License Division. This is where you'll need to start the application process.

1. Apply Together

   • The couple must appear together to fill out the application at the Probate Courthouse. You'll both need to have your Social Security cards and an application fee. Call the Probate Courthouse, Marriage License Division in the county where you're getting married to find out the appropriate fee. You'll also want to ask what types of payment are accepted, since each location is different.

   Waiting Period

   • Once you file the marriage license application, you'll need to wait 24 hours before you can pick up the actual license and get married. Keep in mind the Marriage License Division isn't open on weekends. So if you're going to have a weekend wedding, you'll need to start the application process no later than Thursday for a Friday license pickup.

   Proof of Age

   • If you're at least 18 years old, you must present one piece of identification. This may include: a valid driver's license- a valid South Carolina ID card issued by the South Carolina Highway Department- an original or certified copy of a birth certificate- current military ID- current passport.

   Parental Consent

   • If you're at least 16 years old, you'll need to bring an original or certified copy of your birth certificate. A parent or legal guardian (if you're the minor) will need to come to the courthouse with you. The parent or legal guardian needs to have one piece of identification (as mentioned above) and be able to sign a form that gives consent to the marriage.

   Officiant Guidelines

   • Ministers of the Gospel, accepted Jewish rabbis, and officers who are authorized to administer oaths in South Carolina are permitted to officiate over the marriage ceremony.

   Location Requirement

   • South Carolina marriage licenses are valid only when the ceremony is performed in South Carolina.

   Other Concerns

   • There are no blood test or residency requirements to get married in the state of South Carolina.
