April wedding colors

April wedding colors

It's interesting:
"And for those of you who don't know, this special day in the lives of Dave and Sarah also happens to be Chinese New Year! Or, as they call it in China."

Modern brides no longer have to fall into the trap of choosing their wedding colors based on the season. Fall weddings do not require rich oranges and reds, just as spring weddings do not demand a pastel palette. However, using traditional spring colors at an April wedding -- along with surprise pops of color -- can make things easier for the bride. Flowers in springtime shades will likely be in season, allowing the bride to carry her color scheme throughout the wedding, down to her floral arrangements.

  1. Classic With a Spring Twist

    • Black is a classic color for a wedding -- or any other formal event, for that matter -- and an April wedding is no exception. Add a spring twist to your classic black and white color scheme by pairing it with a bright spring color. Fuchsia, turquoise and lime green contrast well against black. Brides can choose black dresses for their bridesmaids and black tuxes for groomsmen paired with fuchsia bouquets and boutonnieres. Or, use black linens with turquoise napkins and centerpieces on reception tables.

    Navy and Brights

    • Navy is a refreshing twist on the classic black color scheme. It's a bit softer and certainly less common than a black and white wedding. Navy works particularly well with greens and yellows. Pairing yellow with black runs the risk of a bumblebee look, but navy and yellow is a fresh, preppy twist for an April wedding. Navy and a brighter color also works well for a more casual affair, while many brides reserve black for more formal events.

    Natural Color Scheme

    • No matter where you're hosting your wedding, chances are that spring is in full bloom in April. If you're having an outdoor ceremony or reception, take advantage of the natural colors of the season. If your ceremony venue is full of brightly colored flowers, don't diminish their appearance with a contrasting color scheme. Instead, choose a neutral palette of greens, creams and even tan or brown to blend in with your venue and maximize the natural beauty of your wedding setting.

    Mixed and Matched Brights

    • If soft pastels just aren't for you, then don't hesitate to add bolder colors for your April wedding. With a spring wedding, anything goes -- you can usher in warm summer weather with a richly hued color scheme. Aqua and coral are a fresh color combination for a spring wedding. Or, go even bolder and pair hot pink with orange for an unusual but surprisingly flattering look. Turquoise and green works well for the bride who wants to stay away from more feminine shades.
