How to elope in the smoky mountains

elope in the smoky mountains

It's interesting:
"Today we have all gathered together to celebrate Paul’s success. We lads are greatly fond of Paul, and now that he is departing from our bachelor midst we must try to comfort ourselves with the thought that we are not losing a friend, but gaining a Linda. Looking at it like that, what a bargain we’ve got."

The stress of planning a wedding can often push couples to the breaking point. Some couples choose not to have a large wedding. Instead, they choose a destination and elope, tying the knot in a small ceremony with little notice to friends and family. Eloping can be an exciting, spontaneous way to marry, but when planning to elope, destination is very important. The Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and North Carolina offer a beautiful backdrop for your elopement.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a location for the ceremony. The Smoky Mountain Range is on the border between North Carolina and Tennessee. Decide which state to get married in: North Carolina or Tennessee.

    • 2

Choose a type of ceremony. Tennessee and North Carolina mountain towns have several wedding chapels to choose from. Some counties also offer the courthouse option, with a ceremony by the justice of the peace.

    • 3

Apply for a marriage license. Neither state has a residency requirement, meaning anyone from any state can marry in either North Carolina or Tennessee. There is also no waiting period, and the license is valid immediately after it is issued. Apply at the county clerk's office in the county in which you wish you marry.

    • 4

Have the marriage ceremony performed at the venue of your choice. The fees vary for different wedding chapels and for justice of the peace ceremonies.

Tips &- Warnings

  • Be aware that most clerk's offices are only open on weekdays during regular business hours.

  • Be sure to reserve lodging for your wedding night, or longer if you plan to stay in the Smoky Mountains for your honeymoon.
