Seattle attractions for kids

Seattle attractions for kids

It's interesting:
"I am quite sure that Linda will want to improve Paul a little because that's what wives do. Above all else I hope she'll teach him to entertain in this style and continue this fine hosting tradition."

Seattle has a reputation for having good coffee, an alternative music scene and rainy days. Those are things that probably won't appeal to most kids. The Pacific Northwest city in northwestern Washington state, however, has a range of attractions that will please kids. They include a hands-on children's museum, an air and space museum and a zoo.

Does this Spark an idea?

  1. The Children's Museum

    • Kids are naturally curious. The Children's Museum encourages exploration by offering hands-on exhibits. The permanent exhibits include a global village that explains about different cultures, a storytelling area equipped with a treehouse and a display recreating a mountain forest with a cave and rocks. The museum also has daily programs for kids up to 10. They include games, play times and scavenger hunts that help in a child's development. Subjects that a kid will learn in school like science are also introduced.

    The Museum of Flight

    • The Museum of Flight has over 150 air and spacecraft such as the original Air Force One and a retired Concorde jet, as well as exhibits and artifacts. Kids will find many of the displays interesting. The Kid's Flight Zone, for example, is geared for children with hands-on activities. They include putting on a flight harness in a hang gliding simulator, and sitting in a cockpit and navigating the controls of various aircraft. Preschool-age kids can play with airplane toys. Additionally, the museum offers a family fun workshop every weekend for kids in kindergarten to third grade and their families. Kids are taught about an aviation subject and do an activity related to it like arts and crafts. The museum also has a day camp called the Aerospace Camp Experience that teaches about aviation, science and technology.

    Woodland Park Zoo

    • Kids will enjoy the Woodland Park Zoo just by walking around with their parents and observing the animals. The zoo, though, also has educational programs geared toward kids. Many take place in the Zoomazium, an indoor venue that has hands-on and multimedia areas. Programs include an animal puppet show, storytelling and a song and dance period for toddlers. Kids ages 4 to 11 can spend a supervised night at the Zoomazium in the Parents' Night Out program. A Bug Club for kids 5 to 12 meets once a month to teach about insects.
