How to clean up your homes backyard

clean up your home's backyard

It's interesting:
"Now, I think you'll agree, after seeing the amount of free booze available at this wedding, that it's a good job it's a Bank Holiday this weekend. And if you do ..."

It's easy for your backyard to become a catchall for all those things you'd like to get around to. Yet, when it comes time to get around to it, things may have gotten out of hand. At these times, it may seem a little bit overwhelming to clean up your home's backyard. On the other hand, your yard may become unkempt with seasonal normalcy, so it could be time for a regular seasonal cleaning. In any event, with some forethought and organization, the task of cleaning up your home's backyard is still a rewarding task.

Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Various yard tools
  • Garbage cans or other containers
  • Safety glasses
  • Work gloves

Instructions

    • 1

List what needs to be done and prioritize it. Rubbish and sticks must be picked up before mowing, and anything that's up for freecycling, or that's going to the dump, must be attended to first. Make your list so that each project makes way for the next in order to keep the job from being more difficult than necessary.

    • 2

Gather any necessary tools for the task at hand. Take a mental walk through the task, and note what tools you might need, so you don't need to waste time searching for something again once you've begun. To start with clearing out any unwanted clutter, you may need a wheelbarrow, work gloves, plastic bags, and some garbage cans or other containers for separating what to give away or to sell, what to put away for seasonal storage and/or what to dispose of.

    • 3

Work through your list of priorities one job at a time. Finish one job before starting the next to get a sense of accomplishment and to see visible progress. This, again, prevents the overall task from being an overwhelming one and keeps each task as easy as it can be. It also helps to prevent unnecessarily wasting your time with repetitive tasks.

    • 4

Finish up with a few final touches once you have accomplished the tasks on your list. Rake up any remaining grass clippings and sweep any sidewalks. Clean and put away all the remaining tools.

Tips &- Warnings

  • Some cities have certain days of the year when they will pick up certain types of rubbish that you may find in your backyard, either free of charge or for a minimal fee. Plan your backyard cleanup around these days to save time and expense.

  • Wear the appropriate safety gear for all tasks. You may need to use work gloves and safety glasses and possibly even a hardhat for tasks such as removing low hanging or broken branches.
