Decor ideas for rustic but elegant weddings

It's interesting:
"That said, nobody wants the wedding party to go straight from the reception to the divorce courts, so your humour will need to be pitched just right. You want ..."

A rustic wedding theme is ideal for receptions set in wine cellars, gardens or refurbished barns, and often features homemade projects, highlighted by low lighting. The key to adding elegance to the event is by keeping a simple decorating scheme and enhancing it with natural colors, vintage pieces and romantic lighting. Personalized centerpieces are the finishing touch, which creates an intimate atmosphere, even within a large room.

  1. Fabric Streamers

    • Streamers become more than party favors when they are created from long braids of vintage fabric and hung overhead as a canopy. Choose fabric in vibrant colors from family hope chests or from your local craft store. Cut the fabric into 1-inch strips and braid the strips into long streamers. Hang rows of streamers a 3 to 4 inches apart from a focal point in the center of the room to the ceiling edge. Alternatively, run the streamers lengthwise across the ceiling. Add strands of twinkle lights for added glamor.

    Mason Jars

    • Mason jars are available in a variety of colors and styles from your local vintage store or from older family members. Place an LED candle inside the jar and tie a ribbon in a complementary color around the top. Fill with flowers and group two or three in the center of each table. Scatter flower petals around the table for an added touch. Alternatively, the jars can be filled with items that fit the wedding theme, such as antique buttons or wine corks.

    Bird Cage

    • Antique birdcages create an original centerpiece or decoration for an escort card table. Sand away any rust and paint the surface in a dark hue. Hang LED candles from different levels inside the cage with clear string. Place in the center of the table and surround with escort cards that feature a pair of bird silhouettes. Small bird's nests with chocolate "-egg"- favors complement the bird cage as a centerpiece.

    Sticks

    • Thin tree branches create a rustic centerpiece when placed in a tall, metal pitcher or vase. LED lights and strings of clear beads hung from the branches add a touch of elegance. Use birch branches for a spring or summer wedding, and darker branches for the fall or winter. Spanish moss placed into the center of the vessel finishes the piece. Tall birch trees hung with LED lights that flank the entrance complement the natural scheme.
