How to word response cards

word response cards

It's interesting:
"It's a shame, given this is a winter wedding, that the minister wouldn't let Paul and Linda have the pantomime theme wedding they originally wanted. Looking at Paul, I think ‘Puss in Boots’ would have been very appropriate."

The response card for a wedding invitation is designed to give the bride an idea of how many people will be coming. This allows the bride to give a head count to the caterer for the reception so that there will be enough food for all of the guests. Wording the response card depends on the amount of information needed from each guest. For example, if the guest will have a choice in dinner at the reception, this needs to be included on the response card.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a date for invited guests to respond by. A respond-by date needs to appear prominently on the response card so that the bride can have a total head count soon enough for the caterer.

    • 2

Indicate where guests should put their names. An "M" at the front of a blank line indicates to an invited guest to write his name on the line. You also can indicate for the guest to write his name by simply writing "name" in front of a blank line.

    • 3

Provide a place for invited guests to mark whether they will attend the wedding. A simple "will attend" or "will not attend" is sufficient, and lines before each statement provide a place for the guests to write numbers. This way, if a family of four is invited and only two will be attending, they can indicate this by saying two will attend and two will not attend.

    • 4

Ask guests their choice of dinner. If the reception includes a choice of chicken or beef, for example, this can be included on the response card so that the caterer will know how many of each dish to prepare.

Tips &- Warnings

  • If you wish to invite a second string of guests after receiving responses from the first guests, be sure to have the respond-by date soon enough so that the second string of invitations has a chance to arrive and response cards can be returned before the caterer's deadline.
