Couples searching for a big city wedding can head to Georgia's capital. Atlanta offers locations around its downtown for wedding ceremonies and receptions. In addition to several churches that provide wedding facilities, couples also can have their special day in locations such as parks, hotels and tourist attractions.

1. Churches

   • Downtown Atlanta is home to several churches that are open to anyone using their facilities for weddings. Peachtree Christian Church on Peachtree Street has been the site for weddings since the 1920s. Members or nonmembers can hold their Christian ceremonies in the sanctuary of the church under the direction of a church minister. Druid Hills Baptist Church also offers its facilities to couples who want weddings in its 500-seat sanctuary or a 100-seat chapel.

   Parks

   • In the spring and early summer, couples might prefer outdoor ceremonies at a local park. At Inman Park, weddings facilities are available at Inman Park United Methodist Church and The Trolley Barn, both on Edgewood Avenue. At Piedmont Park, couples can get married in view of Lake Clara Meer, in the courtyard or on the Granite Plaza. Reception facilities also are available near the park.

   Hotels

   • Atlanta is filled with dozens of grand hotels where couples can hold wedding ceremonies and receptions. At the Omni Hotel at CNN Center, wedding ceremonies can accommodate up to several hundred guests. Hotel banquet and catering services, in addition to lodging, also are available for wedding celebrations. The historic Georgian Terrace Hotel offers three ballroom choices, lodging suites and catering services for up to 250 guests.

   Tourist Attractions

   • In addition to offering entertainment for tourists, some popular Atlanta attractions also are available as wedding facilities. At the Georgia Aquarium -- the world's largest -- offers a ballroom and smaller rooms for 50 or up to 500 guests and catering services by Wolfgang Puck. Just outside of downtown, the Fernbank Museum of Natural History is available for rent. The facility requires the use of one of six catering services.
