Lodging in st. george island, florida
It's interesting:"August is the month when many folk festivals take place, where the audience stares at a bloke with a microphone and one finger stuck in his ear. In contrast ..."
St. George Island is a tiny, tranquil barrier island in Florida's Gulf of Mexico, offering 22 miles of powder beaches that cuddle the Apalachicola Bay. It forms part of the state's Forgotten Coast, a shoreline that remains low-key for lodging options. Don't think a vacation on St. George means making up your own entertainment as there are powerboats for rent, trails through salt marsh and sand dune, and an annual charity chili cook-off on the beach in March.
Resort Vacation Properties of St George Island Inc.
One of the most popular options on St. George Island is to rent a beach cottage or condo. There are literally hundreds available from a number of rental companies, but the largest selection is offered by Resort Vacations Properties. In 2010 it offered 360 different lodgings options ranging from seven-bedroom beach houses to one-bedroom cottages. Most allow pets, many have swimming pools and some have elevators or ground-level access for wheelchairs. Linen, long distance telephone calls and travel insurance are included in each reservation.

Poinciana Plantation
The owners of the Victorian Coombs House Inn across the water in Apalachicola, which the New York Times described as 'the most luxurious place around,' also rent out the Poinciana Plantation home on St. George Island. Because Coombs House is often used for weddings, the St. George residence frequently serves as subsidiary accommodation for wedding guests, but large parties can rent it out, and with four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms it comfortably sleeps eight people on its three levels. Three wraparound porches afford views of the Gulf of Mexico, and there are modern bathrooms, a wood burning fireplace and multiple TVs.

St. George Island State Park
There are three campgrounds located within the nine-mile St. George Island State Park at the east end of the island. It's a splendid place to get back to nature with plenty of hiking trails, swimming and kayaks available to rent. Pets are welcome at the main campground, which has 60 spaces and can accommodate RVs up to a maximum length of 43 feet. A much smaller, and more primitive site is accessible by foot or kayak across the Gap Point Trail, though children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and pets are not allowed. There is no restroom, showers or fresh water, and reservations are essential. Youth camps for groups of between six and 25 people are available and must be reserved. It has restrooms, picnic tables, fire pits and the showers are cold water only.
