      Get a delicious, healthy meal made up of local produce, artisan bread and other fine ingredients at the Market Cafe (2002 Woodland Avenue, (515) 243-1754) open Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Market Cafe serves up quiche, omelets, a french toast made with challah bread and a fried egg sandwich recently featured in "Bon Appetit" magazine. Afterward you can peruse and shop for fine foods and wine at the adjoining Market (see Resources below).

      Gather the gang and head to the upscale Star Bar (2611 Ingersoll Avenue, (515) 244-0790), which serves a creative weekend brunch that also includes all the traditional staples. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a number of an impressive number of martinis, beers on tap and wine. In addition to the usual omelets, pancakes and waffle plates, there's also potstickers, a Cuban sandwich, spring rolls and crab ragoons (see Resources below).

      Take your vegetarian friends to Ritual Cafe (1301 Locust Street, Suite D, (515) 288-4872), which serves an all-non-meat menu that includes some vegan dishes as well. The salsa served is homemade, there's hemp in their granola and chocolate chip cookies, and hummus dishes abound (see Resources below).

      Impress a date by taking her to the Mimosa Buffet Brunch at Joseph's Steak House (4001 Westown Pkwy, (515) 327-9000), which is served on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sit in its luxurious, sophisticated dining room as you indulge in a variety of international fare. Recent offerings have included salmon cakes, Mongolian beef, bread pudding, jicama salad and gorgonzola pasta (see Resources below).
