Sharing the good news of an impending or recent wedding is exciting. A common way to let people know is by placing an announcement, with or without a photo, in a variety of newspapers. In addition to your current local newspaper, consider posting the wedding information in hometown newspapers, small weekly newspapers where relatives live and in previous towns where you spent some time.
The Impending Wedding
Many couples opt for at least two announcements in the newspaper--one to let people know of an upcoming wedding, and another to let them know the wedding happened. The content of these two announcements varies quite a bit, making them each a nice keepsake for a wedding scrapbook.
An impending wedding announcement, or engagement announcement, should let the readers learn more about the couple. The article should list the individuals' parents, hometowns and educational experiences, including high school and college degrees. Many couples include employment information, and if known, the potential wedding ceremony date and city where it will take place.
The Wedding Announcement
After the wedding, it is common for couples to post a wedding announcement in the newspaper letting friends and family know the details of the ceremony and future plans. In addition to a brief background on the couple including parents names, be sure to detail all the members of the wedding party, their relationship to the couple and their hometowns. Include the date of the wedding and the locations for the ceremony and reception. If planned or completed, include a sentence about the honeymoon and where the couple is living after the marriage.
