Getting married on New Year's means that you can ring in the new year with your new spouse. New Year's is always a festive time, but it will be even more fun when you celebrate both your wedding and the beginning of a new year with all of your friends and family. Because most people go to parties or some type of celebration on New Year's anyway, try to create a wedding with the same festive atmosphere.

1. Winter Wonderland

   • Play on the fact that a New Year's wedding will take place during a cold and wintry time of year. Create a winter wonderland for your wedding and reception. Choose silver dresses for the bridesmaids and silver ties for the groom and groomsmen. Decorate the ceremony and reception spaces with white flowers and sparkling silver accents. Pale, icy blue is another great color to use as an accent for a winter wonderland wedding. Choose ice sculptures to help decorate the space, along with barren tree branches decorated with sparkling crystals. Your guests will be thrilled to ring in the new year at this fabulous winter wonderland wedding.

   • When you want to have a New Year's wedding that is as fun for your guests as it is for you, go with a costume ball. This idea is a good choice for a New Year's wedding because New Year's parties are often a whimsical and fun way for people to unwind after the stress of the holidays. Ask your guests to dress in costumes based on a specific theme, like the 1920s or the 1940s, and choose wedding decor to fit the theme. You could go with a Victorian theme and have your guests dress in Victorian-era costumes. Your wedding party can also be dressed in outfits inspired by the era. For example, groomsmen for a 1960s-themed wedding would wear slim suits like those worn in that decade- Victorian-era theme bridesmaids would wear corseted dresses with large skirts. Continue your theme in all of the wedding details. For example, if you choose a wedding with a 1940s theme, hire a band that plays big band music and hire an instructor to teach your guests to do the Charleston.

   Black and White

   • Choose a formal and elegant theme for your wedding and host a black and white affair. The groom, groomsmen and bridesmaids would wear black dresses and tuxedos while the bride would be the only one dressed in pure white. Decorate with lots of white flowers and white candles. Choose black accents, such as tablecloths, chairs and napkins. If you want to host a truly black and white wedding, ask your guests to dress in black. This likely wouldn't be hard for most people, as most tuxedos are black and most women already own a little black dress or two. Host this formal wedding late in the evening, which is perfect for a New Year's wedding as people already expect to be out late. Plan the ceremony for late in the evening, maybe even midnight. If you prefer to have earlier vows, plan another wedding moment at midnight, such as your first dance or cutting the cake.
