Florida dive bars

Florida dive bars

It's interesting:
"It's a shame, given this is a winter wedding, that the minister wouldn't let Paul and Linda have the pantomime theme wedding they originally wanted. Looking at Paul, I think ‘Puss in Boots’ would have been very appropriate."

Dive bars may be considered a drinking establishment of disrepute, but they are full of local color and far more interesting to the contrarian traveler. No velvet ropes, dress-codes or cover charges will stand in your way of a good time. Dive bars are known for having cheap drinks, eclectic jukeboxes and laid-back attitudes, so belly up to the bar and order whatever is on tap.

  1. Mac's Club Deuce

    • South Beach is known for having the hottest nightclubs, but it is also home to some of the coolest dive bars. The Deuce has a classic horseshoe-shape bar, pool table, and rocking jukebox. Surly bartenders are a plus. The drinks are strong and the crowd can get wild as the night grows long, but that's all part of its charm.

    Tiny Tap Tavern

    • Just off South Howard in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Tampa, you will find a yellow concrete block building that doesn't look like much. That is the Tiny Tap. Some of the friendliest barflies in Tampa will happily greet you inside, where you can get two beers for less than $4, play pool, or watch a game on the large-screen TV. Fresh boiled peanuts are often available- for free if you're a pretty lady. The crowd gets younger the later it gets.

    Leon Pub

    • If you love beer and don't mind the smoke, Leon Pub is the perfect dive. Close to 50 taps and 300 different bottled beers are available, and the friendly bartenders won't mind if you take a few minutes to decide. Sit at the bar for local chatter or at a booth for cozy people-watching. You can play pool or darts, but be sure to select some classic bar tunes on the jukebox.

Flora-Bama Lounge, Package and Oyster Bar

    • The last stop before leaving the Florida Panhandle should definitely be the Flora-Bama. It is a beach bar, an oyster bar, and the perfect dive bar. If you visit in April and don't mind throwing dead fish, you can participate in the annual Interstate Mullet Toss. Or you can toss your bra over the ropes anytime of year.
