Nontraditional wedding themes

Nontraditional wedding themes

It's interesting:
"It is said that a Fall wedding is a very special one, because at a time when so much of the life around us is changing colors and dying, we gather together for a celebration of life and a brand new beginning. Indeed, today we are very privileged to welcome a new married couple into the world. I hope that every time you celebrate your anniversary, you will always think back to this wonderful Autumn day and remember all the love and warmth that you feel in this room right now."

While many of brides choose traditional themes, there's nothing wrong with opting for a more memorable ceremony--one that reflects your individual personality and the spirit of your romance. A playful, unexpected and nontraditional wedding theme guarantees your guests will remember your wedding ceremony for years to come.

  1. Halloween Wedding Theme

    • Embrace the eerie but plafyul atmosphere of Halloween.

For a fall wedding, go beyond autumn leaf decor and try a more spooky theme. Halloween weddings are creative and can even have a touch of elegance. Historic mansions or churches make ideal venues, decorated with elaborate Victorian-era candelabras, blood red roses and white lilies. Black bridesmaids dresses and tailcoats for ushers create a Gothic vibe. If desired, the dress code can include Halloween costumes--for a more classy look, ask guests to wear masquerade masks.

    Sports Wedding Theme

    • For a sports-loving bride and groom, athletic equipment is just as romantic as flower bouquets. To keep decor streamlined, focus on a single sport or a specific team. Send out invitations designed to look like sporting event tickets. If possible, hold your wedding at a basketball court, football field, bowling alley or other sports venue, booked for the day and decorated with traditional wedding roses and candles in your favorite team's colors. Serve casual fare, such as popcorn or hot dogs, at the reception instead of a traditional sit-down banquet.

    Dog Wedding Theme

    • If your dog is like a family member, don't leave him out of the wedding ceremony. Build an entire theme around your favorite pet. Invite your guests to bring their own dogs to the ceremony, which should take place outdoors for greater convenience. Provide complementary water dishes for the canine guests. Your dog should take the role of ring-bearer (train your dog in advance to avoid frustration). At the reception, hand out doggy treats in addition to favors for your human guests.

    Amusement Park Wedding Theme

    • Your wedding can be a roller coaster ride even if your romance isn't.

Amusement parks make memorable wedding destinations, whether you choose a nearby park or decide to travel to your favorite location. Many larger amusement or theme parks will offer special wedding packages, so check beforehand for the best rates. Typically, parks will be able to schedule your ceremony outside of normal operation hours. For an amusement park wedding, the brides' gown, bridal party attire and reception decorations can be creative and colorful. Consider balloons in lieu of flowers.
