If a bride doesn't mind the chance of a little rain on her wedding day (which is considered a sign of good luck), Seattle and its immediate surroundings are ideal for getting married. The city's temperate climate means that a winter wedding won't be very chilly, nor will summer nuptials suffer from extreme humidity. Plus, the city's abundance of parks and its natural geography--it's located between the Olympic and the Cascade mountain ranges--offer plenty of opportunities for great wedding photos.

1. Cruises

   • Couples can have their wedding during a cruise around the city of Seattle, through the Puget Sound, or on lakes Washington and Union. Or they can take a short boat ride to the nearby San Juan Islands. Local fleet Argosy Cruises was recognized as a top wedding reception site in 2008.

   Museum of Flight

   • The Museum of Flight, with its building that resembles an airplane hangar and historic artifacts, is a unique backdrop for weddings. It offers spaces that can be rented for ceremonies and other events.

   Woodland Park Zoo

   • Woodland Park Zoo, the biggest zoo in the state, contains 92 acres that house almost 300 different species of animals. Designated areas for weddings include Thai Village, which is situated within a rain forest, and Taiga Shelter, where guests can watch grizzly bears and otters scamper about.

   DAR Rainier Chapter House

   • This mansion, neatly decorated with green shutters and trimmed bushes, is modeled after the summer home of George and Martha Washington. Located on the city's Capitol Hill, it can accommodate weddings of up to 250 guests.

   Washington Park Arboretum

   • The 230-acre Washington Park Arboretum is located on Lake Washington. The Graham Visitors Center has an event space for smaller weddings (80 to 95 people), and abundant shrubs, trees and plants provide plenty of fodder for picture-taking.

   Seattle Asian Art Museum

   • If need be, the Seattle Asian Art Museum is available on short notice (as little as two weeks). The modern art facility includes Indian, Korean and Southeast Asian pieces in its collections, and its events team will work with you in creating the perfect menu for the wedding.
