Wedding photos are an important part of any ceremony. Many couples use photos as a way to remember the big day and use the photos as gifts for friends and family. The photos that you take should not be limited to formal wedding shots. The photos should show who you are as a couple and show your personality and that of your family and bridal party members. Create a checklist of desired shots to give to the photographer so you don't miss out on the shot you want to preserve.
Pre-Wedding
Make a list of the kinds of shots you would like to see of the wedding preparations before the ceremony. Let the photographer know that you want to see pictures of the bride and groom getting ready. It is also a nice touch to show pictures of the bridal party and the people decorating or hosting the party in action before the ceremony. Let the photographer know you also want pictures of guests signing in as well as the decorations.
Families
The photographer should have a list of the types of shots he wants to take of the families, but you should also let the photographer know if you want any special shots. Some of the traditional family shots include, bride's side with bride only, bride's side with bride and groom, groom's side with groom only, groom's side with bride and groom, immediate family members, bride and grooms parents together with the bride and groom and the bride and groom individually with both sets of parents.
Bridal Party
Bridal party pictures can be fun and lighthearted. Let the photographer know that you want a variety of posed, formal pictures and some informal, fun poses as well. Many people choose to take the bridal party photos outside, but use the time of year and theme of your wedding as a guide. Get pictures of the bridal party members alone, together and with the bride and groom. A picture of the groom and all groomsmen and bride and all bridesmaids is another set of essential shots.
Bride and Groom
The bride and groom shots can be as formal or informal as you like. Some couples prefer to take the pictures ahead of the ceremony so that they do not have to keep guests waiting. Have fun with the bride and groom shots. Take close-up pictures of the two of you and full-length shots to show the dress. If there is time, take pictures in a variety of locations to have a large selection of shots from which to choose.
