How to assemble wedding envelopes

assemble wedding envelopes

It's interesting:
"Now, I appreciate that you're all missing the Wimbledon final to be here today, but let this wedding be a reminder that there's more to life than single events ..."

If you're in the midst of planning a wedding, wondering assemble wedding envelopes may cause you stress. Brides worry over the rules of etiquette and the possibility of offending their wedding guests. Suddenly, it may seem as though assembling wedding envelopes is something no typical bride is equipped to do. Really, though, a little planning and organization are all you need to be able to easily assemble your wedding envelopes.

Things You'll Need

  • Wedding invitations and envelopes
  • Tissue paper, if desired
  • Reception cards
  • Information cards to include registry or hotel information
  • Reply cards
  • Reply card envelopes, stamped
  • Inner envelopes, if desired
  • Adequate postage

Instructions

  1. Insertions

    • 1

Prepare for the task at hand by making stacks of all items that are to be put into the wedding envelopes. Though it may seem tempting to have your bridal party help with stuffing the envelopes, it may be a better idea to complete the task alone. The more people involved, the greater the chance for error.

    • 2

"If your invitations are single fold and the wording is on the outside only," says WedAlert.com, "insertions are placed on top. If your invitations are multi-fold and/or the wording is inside the fold then insertions are placed inside the first fold." Be sure that all items are arranged so that guests will see the printed side facing them when they open the wedding envelope.

    • 3

If you choose, you may insert a piece of tissue paper. This is optional and helps to add elegance to wedding envelopes.

    • 4

Next, include a reception card, a smaller card that informs guests where and at what time the wedding reception will begin and may also list menu choices for the meal that will be served at the reception. If tissue paper is included in your wedding envelope, the reception card is the second insertion. If not, it is the first.

    • 5

A second card, about the same size as the reception card, can hold additional information that may benefit guests, such as registry or hotel information. This card, if included, should be placed on top of the reception card.

    • 6

Be sure to include a reply card that guests can easily return as their wedding RSVP. Reply cards should be placed inside small envelopes, addressed to the person who will be keeping track of attendance at the wedding---usually the bride or the bride's parents---and stamped before they are sent to guests. Reply cards and reply card envelopes are the final items to be included in wedding envelopes.

    • 7

For more formal weddings, you may want to place invitations in an inner envelope, which is simply a plain white envelope that is placed inside the outer envelope, along with the rest of the contents of the wedding envelope. The outer envelope is the envelope that will be stamped and addressed. For casual or semiformal weddings, an inner envelope is not necessary.

If an inner envelope is used, insertions should be placed inside the inner envelope in the appropriate order. Place the stuffed inner envelope inside the outer envelope, making sure that the flap of the inner envelope faces the flap of the outer envelope.

    Mailing

    • 8

Be sure you'll have enough postage on your wedding envelopes. Prepare a sample stuffed envelope---which should include a wedding invitation, reply card, stamped reply card envelope and any additional information cards.

    • 9

Take the stuffed sample envelope to the post office to be weighed.

    • 10

Depending on what kind of postage a wedding envelope requires, you may be able to choose from among various stamp designs.

Tips &- Warnings

  • Wedding invitations should typically be sent out six to eight weeks prior to a wedding. If you will get married during a holiday season, if you are planning a destination wedding or if you are inviting a number of out-of-town guests, send invitations even earlier so guests can make travel and accommodation arrangements.
