You're getting married, but you're not really the type to want to wear a white gown or a fancy tuxedo. Your wedding day is all about you, so feel free to choose a non-traditional theme that may raise a few eyebrows, as long as it makes you and your partner happy.

1. Farm Wedding

   • If you live in the country, love the outdoors and have an appreciation for miles and miles of farm land, consider having a farm or country-themed wedding. Hold the ceremony and reception at a local farm. Cover rows of hay bales with white linen for seating during the ceremony. You may want to keep the wedding small to give it more of a down-home country feel. Use bandannas as napkins and sunflowers as the centerpieces. When it comes time to dance, try holding a square dance instead of standard wedding dances.

   Nautical Wedding

   • Get married by the sea or a lake and give your wedding a nautical theme. Use small toy sailboats as centerpieces during the reception. Write guest's names on the back of small clam shells and set those at each place setting. You could take the nautical theme one step further by getting married on a boat. If it's in your budget, see if you could hire a ship to take the guests for a trip during the reception. Shades of blue and white are perfect nautical wedding colors.

   School Spirit Wedding

   • If you and your soon-to-be spouse met during college and both have a lot of school spirit, you may want a school-themed wedding. See if you can rent a reception hall or chapel on campus for the ceremony and reception. Use the school's colors as your wedding colors and give guests small trinkets with the school's name on it as favors. Take the wedding photos by notable landmarks at your alma mater, such as in front of the building you met in.

   Eco-Friendly Wedding

   • Weddings can be wasteful, which may clash with your earth-conscious style. An eco-friendly wedding doesn't mean you'll have to wear something like hemp or bamboo or serve your guests brown rice and tofu. Go for a subtle, green theme instead. Use recycled materials for the table decorations, such as empty wine bottles for vases. Go for locally grown, in-season flowers or opt for small plants, such as herbs, as the centerpieces. If you can afford it, serve locally raised, grass fed beef or organic chicken. Stay in-season for any vegetables you serve as well. Use organic textiles for napkins and tablecloths. Give guests small seed packets or organic soaps as favors.
