How to require your wedding to be a black tie event

require your wedding to be a black tie event

It's interesting:
"The happy couple have picked a beautiful sunny day to get married. It’s perhaps a little too hot for me in this suit though, but at least I now know how Chewbacca felt filming those desert scenes."

When your vision of the perfect wedding includes formal attire, it's important to let guests know. Inform guests that your wedding is a black tie event to avoid embarrassment or having admittance refused if it's a venue rule. Be tactful as you convey the dress code and follow proper wedding etiquette. An event after six in the evening used to automatically mean black tie, though not everyone knows this and not all black tie events take place after six.

Instructions

    • 1

List your request on your wedding website if you have one. Many guests will likely look to your website for information on your wedding, including trying to figure out what to wear. Tailor your wording to your personal style. For example, write "Our black tie wedding" or something else in a prominent place on your site if yours is a super-formal wedding.

Try something more laid-back if you want the fancy clothes with a casual atmosphere, such as "Break out the tuxes and gowns and shine your shoes for our black tie wedding." Alternatively, create a "Guests FAQ" page and list the appropriate attire.

    • 2

Add the words "Black tie" with an uppercase "B" and lowercase "t" as a footnote on your reception cards if you're including reception cards with the invitations. Dress code information is typically not included on the actual invitation.

    • 3

Include your request on the bottom of the invitation if you feel this is the only way to relay the information to all guests. Write "Black Tie Only" if a tuxedo is required, or "Black Tie Optional" if it's OK for the men to wear tuxedos or dark suits and ties. Women typically know to dress up when the wording is included.

Ask your close friends and family members, especially the wedding party, to help you spread the word verbally as well.
