Ideas for planning a masquerade party
It's interesting:"'I used your site to create my wedding speech. ... 'Chaps, just got to say a huge thanks for the help your site gave me preparing for my brother's wedding. As best ..."
The idea of donning a mask means you get to slip out of your everyday identity and take on a new one, even if just for the span of an evening party. Get your guests excited for the thrill of a masked evening right from the beginning stages and all the way through the night. With a little bit of planning, masquerade attendees can take on a new party identity.
Does this Spark an idea?
Who's That Mask?
Look to Hollywood as inspiration for your masquerade party. For decades, masked characters have taken audiences by storm, capturing attention and leaving people to wonder just who is behind the mask. Prior to your party, create a list of famous masked characters and assign one to each guest or let them choose their own. For inspiration, think of Batman, the Lone Ranger, Zorro, the Phantom of the Opera, Captain America, the Black Hood, Cat Woman, Spider Man and the Green Lantern. Print images of these masked marauders and use them as decoration throughout the party.
Masked Invitation
Instead of a bland, store-bought box of invitations, take advantage of your computer to make invites that echo your masquerade theme. Graphics programs such as Windows Paint or Adobe Photoshop, desktop publishing programs such as Microsoft Publisher or Adobe InDesign or even a word processing program such as Microsoft Word may be used to make custom invitations. Draw a mask shape or use one of the program's stock clip art, and write all of the invitation information directly on the mask, such as the date of the party, time and place, what type of mask to wear and any other details. As you print the invitations, cut them along the lines of the mask, pierce two holes on either end and attach a bit of elastic.
Make Your Own Mask
If your guests don't have masks of their own or are stumped for ideas, turn the party itself into a masquerade craft activity. Purchase plain masks in bulk from a costume or party store along with craft supplies such as glitter, foam stickers, feathers, paint and stick-on gems. As guests mingle, they can create their own masks to wear. Set a prize list for the most creative, scariest, funniest and other categories. Guests will be able to get crafty and have a personal take home memento of the evening.
