A homemade non-floral wedding centerpiece saves you money plus cuts down on decoration time on the day of the wedding. Design and make the arrangements ahead of time as these types of centerpieces have a long shelf life -- especially when compared to flowers. Choose items that you like and containers within your color scheme as you prepare the display.

1. Feathers

   • Feathers come in a range of colors and give a graceful appearance to a wedding centerpiece. Peacock feathers, with their vibrant eyes of turquoise, greens and golden browns, look good when paired with a vibrant container of a similar hue. Another option is to arrange the peacock feathers individually down the table as you place one feather into a vase. Ostrich feathers and plumes also work well as a centerpiece when you place them as a collection into a metal urn.

   Candles

   • A candle scape creates a soft glow to the table as a centerpiece. Elevate candles on a step, created by stacked books, or group several long, elegant taper candles together in the center of the table. Make your own display as you group several different-sized candles together, such as a pillar candle surrounded by tea lights in colored glass votive holders. Floating candles in a fishbowl or in several different-sized glasses with marbles in the base creates an interesting effect. Place candles on mirrors to add a reflective glow.

   Seashells

   • Place a collection of large seashells, such as murex, nautilus, spider conch or coral, on a plate in the center of the table or you can elevate the collection onto a cake plate in the center of the table and place strands of small shell necklaces underneath. Another option is layering a cylinder glass vase with different colors of sand and adding seashells around the edges and the top of the vase so they can be seen. Some shells to use include sand dollars, clam shells or murex.

   Miscellaneous

   • Create an edible centerpiece for a garden wedding with a bowl of fruit, such as pears, apples, bananas and grapes, or fill several glass containers with candy and nuts for guests to scoop out into small bowls as snacks. Dust pine cones with silver paint on the edges and line them down the table with silver ball ornaments in between as you weave strands of silver beads around them both for a winter wedding, or gather them together in a low-lying silver container and place them in the center of the table.
