Traditionally, the wedding program was a formal document used to outline the order of ceremony. Nowadays, with brides and grooms wanting to put a unique touch on each element of the wedding, the program can be personalized with photos, anecdotes about the couple and more. Aside from these personal touches, the wedding program should contain some basic information, including an introduction, the order of service, the wedding participants and a thank you to wedding guests.

Choose a title for the wedding program, such as:
Welcome to the Wedding Ceremony of
Bride
and
Groom
Day, Date
Time
Ceremony Location
City and State

List the order of service. Work with your officiant to determine how the ceremony will proceed. This section could include the prelude (the time during which guests are seated), seating of parents, special readings, religious elements such as prayers or blessings, musical selections, vows and recessional (the wedding party's exit at the end of the ceremony).

List the names and roles of each of the wedding participants. Include titles such as Miss, Mr. or Dr. for each participant. Use full names, not nicknames, unless your wedding is very informal. Generally, participants listed in the program include parents, grandparents, maid of honor, bridesmaids, best man, groomsmen, flower girl, ring bearer, ushers, officiant, readers and musicians.

Close the wedding program with a heartfelt thank you to your guests. This is also the perfect spot for messages such as directions to the reception, tributes to deceased loved ones, a favorite quotation or poem or anything else you would like to say to your guests.
