Do-it-yourself pagan wedding arch
It's interesting:"They say that a wedding is a sapling that grows into a mighty tree called marriage . Well ... In a way, the jubilation of today's wedding reminds me of the recent ...""
Congratulations! You're about to jump the broom or declare a handfast for a life shared. You want everything just right, including the arch that will frame the vows to the beloved. A pagan wedding arch will be beautifully clad with your favorite flowers, and the ribbons and ties will catch the breeze to send your prayers aloft. By starting with a pre-fabricated bare arch, those involved will have great fun and creative input as you fill in the areas, customizing it to your special occasion.
Things You'll Need
- Pre-fab bare arch or trellis
- Sand bags
- Flowers
- Herbs
- Willow branches
- Greenery
- Multicolored ribbons
- Ornaments
- Cloth strips for ties
- Floral wire
- Twine
- Scissors and cutting tools
Instructions
1
Assemble the arch or trellis according to manufacturer instructions, and anchor it into place solidly. Hide any sandbags with greenery.
2
Gather all the flowers, greens, ornaments and other materials you wish to put on the arch. When choosing flowers, you can purchase from florists, but having additional seasonal wild flowers helps.
3
Cover the arch with vines and greenery, leaving areas for the flowers. Arrange the flowers around the greens, tying them in with twine or floral wire. Leave small areas for where you want to place any ornaments.
4
Tie and weave the ribbon strips throughout. Leave long, flowing strips around both sides of the arch. Shorter ones can hang from the top area. Tuck in herb bundles or branches.
5
Add any cloth ties, prayer clothes, and other ornamentation like crystals, plaques, carvings, and spiritual symbols to both sides of the arch.
6
Stand back from the arch and check it from all sides. Look for clumpy areas with flowers too crushed together or bare spots that need filling. Remedy anything that doesn't look appealing.
Tips &- Warnings
Keep the flowers and greenery fresh in buckets of water until ready to use. Refrigerators or a very cool room helps.
If family or friends help, have someone who will oversee the operation to avoid confusion or problems.
If you or someone wants to build a rough arch from wood, consider using fallen limbs and nailing or tying them together firmly. Then carry on with the flowers, etc.
Watch out for thorns.
If you use ornaments, make sure they are hung carefully with strong material, especially if heavy.
