Creative ideas for bridal showers & gift giving
It's interesting:"Congratulatory remarks about the wedding ... Wasn't the wedding ceremony beautiful? That row of handsome men and a parade of gorgeous attendants. And ..."
The idea for a bridal shower may have originated as an extension of the dowry. The bride started as a little girl putting away towels, linens, dishes and cooking instruments so she would have what she needed when she married. Her relatives and friends would add to her dowry when she approached marriageable age. Now, a bridal shower can be used to fill in the gaps or, if you're creative, in more imaginative ways.
Does this Spark an idea?
Bathroom Shower
Set the mood by sending the invite as a bar of soap that says "Help Shower--the wedding couple's name--In Style." Include instructions to bring gifts appropriate to helping the couple stock their bathroom. If a group gift is desired, consider a high-end luxury shower system.
Have everyone wear their bathrobe over their clothes when the bride and groom walk in to create a sense of surprise.
Decorate the cake to resemble a bathtub filled with bubbles. Serve pink champagne in toy bath tubs. Serve "Everything But The Bathroom Sink" salad or sandwich wraps wrapped in wash cloths.
For entertainment, show a slide show of the bridal couple as babies and toddlers taking a bath.
Entertainment
Invite the guests with an invitation that's shaped like a giant theater ticket. All the guests could contribute to purchase a flat-screen, high-definition television, or purchase their own gifts. Word the invitation so invitees know they're to bring a gift related to entertainment.
Food is Hollywood style with cheeseburger sliders, mini pizzas and individual Cobb salads. Decorate a sheet cake to resemble a movie poster that says "The Maze to Matrimony" starring the names of the bridal couple with their pictures. Add little reviews in icing on the cake such as "Wicked Funny" says the New York Times. "Way Over Budget But Worth It," comments the Seattle Post. Include one review from the couple's local newspaper.
Instead of the trite and tired wedding shower games, assign the guests into teams and play Wedding Movie Charades. Think of short wedding movie titles such as "The Wedding Crasher," Four Funerals and a Wedding" and "Bride of Frankenstein."
Garden Party
If the couple enjoys gardening, throw a garden party. Kick off the wedding shower with invitations that feature a package of flower seeds on card stock. The invitation says something like "Watch--the wedding couple's name--Love Grow as We Help The Garden Grow With a Garden Shower." Gifts can include plants, garden tools, subscriptions to garden magazines or anything garden-related. A group gift could be a lawn mower or small green house kit.
Food features fresh vegetables, such as asparagus wrapped with prosciutto ham, vegetable lasagna, gazpacho served in martini glasses and cheese crisps. Frost the top of the cake to resemble a garden or just decorate with fresh edible flowers.
