How to create a wedding music checklist

create a wedding music checklist

It's interesting:
"It was 48 hours before the wedding and I had zero best man speech made. 2 hours after I found your site I had logged off with an excellent speech.' Luke Betts ..."

Music for your wedding will reflect your personality and taste. If you are having a band or DJ for your reception it is important to organize the music program for the event. After you have selected your instrumentalist and soloist, you should prepare a checklist of all the music you want for your wedding and reception. You should make your list in chronological order to avoid overlooking anything. By creating a checklist you can be assured that everything you want is at the time you want it, covered by each appropriate musician.

Things You'll Need

  • Musicians
  • Soloist
  • Lists of Music or access to Music Websites
  • Paper and Pen or Computer

Instructions

  1. Creating Your Wedding Music List

    • 1

You will need to select prelude music for your guests while they are waiting for the wedding to begin. You should choose soft, subdued background music. You may want to meet with your organist, pianist, violinist or other musician to see if they have a list of music they can comfortably play.

    • 2

You should decide what music you want for your wedding party's processional as well as your own. The instrumentalist should also be familiar with the music you want. Most brides choose Wagner's "Bridal Chorus" also known as "Here Comes The Bride" for their entrance, but some may want something less traditional.

    • 3

At some point during the ceremony you may wish to have a soloist sing a special song. You need to choose what you want, based on the skills of the soloist as well as the instrumentalist.

    • 4

You need to choose your music for your first dance, father-daughter dance, mother-son dance and music for any other special activities planned during the reception. You might want special music or sound effects for removal of the garter and bouquet toss. If you are having an apron dance you should select several songs for that activity.

    • 5

General music at the reception should be selected according to your own personal taste, but you may want to also consider your guests and perhaps include some variety of styles.

    • 6

After you have compiled your complete list you should meet with your instrumentalist, soloist, DJ or band and any others that will provide music for your wedding. Give them copies of their appropriate lists to be sure each knows exactly what you want.

Tips &- Warnings

  • If you plan to be announced as you enter the reception you also need to provide a list of the bride's and groom's parents and the entire wedding party to your DJ or band.
