Tips on outside weddings

Tips on outside weddings

It's interesting:
"This wedding takes place during a week when the web is all astir over ... 4-Feb-201There's nothing like a wedding around Valentine's Day."

An outside venue can be perfect for your wedding, but counting on perfect weather can be tricky. A few tips can ensure that even in the event of rain, wind or a temperature blast, you and your guests have pleasant and comfortable experiences. Choosing the appropriate location for a garden, beach, forest or rooftop wedding can set the mood for a glorious affair.

  1. Windy Day

    • Cover candles with glass to keep the wind out. Secure banners on all four corners by tying a corner to a stick and burying it in the ground. Use a needle and thread to lightly tack fishing weights to the edges of your veil if you are worried about it flying around wildly. Have ushers set up chairs for individual guests as they arrive instead of risking too many folding chairs knocked down from wind. Secure your place cards with weighted-down ribbon.

    Rainy Forecast

    • A rainy wedding day is thought to be a foreshadow of the gift of many children. Protect your guests by renting a tent and moving the ceremony to beneath the tent, or wait until the rainstorm passes if it is already raining. Provide umbrellas for your guests if you insist on tying the knot in the rain. If it rained the night before, keep in mind that high heels will sink into wet ground so consider wearing flats if you do not want to ruin your shoes, or set out a tarp to walk down. Consider whether any handicapped guests will have difficulty getting around on wet ground.

    Sunny Day

    • Cake icings made from butter cream can melt in the sun, so consider an icing made from fondant or keep the cake in a refrigerator until just before the cutting. Also keep perishable food items in a fridge until just before serving. Sunset weddings are beautiful but can be blinding if viewed from the wrong angle, so make sure guests are angled away from the direct rays. Make sure there are plenty of beverages for your guests so they do not dehydrate, and ensure an area of shade for your elderly or pregnant guests. Metal chairs in the sun can burn so consider renting wooden chairs for your guests.

    General

    • Have your venue spray for pests the week before your wedding or set up citronella candles to prevent mosquito bites. Ask for outdoor heaters if the wedding will go into the night to ensure your guests are warm throughout the night, and encourage guests to bring wraps. Have a backup venue planned in case the forecast is too harrowing. Make sure your guests know from their invitation what type of outdoor wedding you are having to ensure appropriate attire. Keep copies of your rental agreements, service contracts, and return policies for all rented equipment with a trusted person in case anything happens throughout the day.

    Permissions

    • Research the restroom and trash facilities at your venue and make sure you can rent port-a-potties and a dumpster if the services are inadequate. Certain parks and outdoor venues may need permits for the number of guests, type of activity, liquor licensing, or other associated permits, so check on those before reserving the location. Parking is always a difficult issue so look into whether you need to rent a bus to get everyone to the venue. Check noise and light ordinances before planning the length of your party.
