Though Illinois is famously the home of the first McDonald's restaurant, the first corn dog and the first fast food restaurant on Route 66, it doesn't mean the state is destined to a reputation for casual dining. Illinois offers its fair share of fine dining and gourmet cuisine prepared by award-winning chefs and served in elegant atmospheres by attentive staff. Chicago as well as towns outside The Windy City are home to several very nice restaurants that offer guests memorable dining experiences.

Sixteen
Sixteen offers its patrons a fine dining experience at high elevation, on the 16th floor of the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago. The restaurant's 30-foot ceiling-to-floor windows line the walls, presenting guests with panoramic views of the city, Lake Michigan and the Chicago River. Executive Chef Frank Brunacci developed a seasonally changing menu, and an elaborate wine cellar features vintage wines and champagnes. Reservations are recommended, and unlike most other fine restaurants, Sixteen opens for breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner seven days a week.
Milo's Restaurant
Located near the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Milo's Restaurant is a gourmet eatery with a relaxed atmosphere. Guests can expect hardwood floors, modern lighting and walls lined with floral art. Those who would rather dine outdoors can request a seat on the outdoor patio overlooking the water. Dinners consist of dishes such as the almond pesto and goat cheese pizza, red Thai curry with sauteed sea scallops, herb-marinated lamb chops and port-glazed fillet mignon. Milo's also caters to special dietary requests, and can make many of its menu items gluten-free. The restaurant, in Urbana, is open for Sunday brunch, as well as lunch Mondays through Saturdays and dinner seven days a week.
Meson Sabika
Meson Sabika offers dining in the regal atmosphere of The Willoway Mansion in Naperville. Built in 1847, the residence was restored and converted into a restaurant in 1990. Today, it features classy ambiance and Spanish-inspired cuisine with a menu consisting of a variety of hot and cold tapas, as well as paellas, soups and salads. Guests can make reservations online, and the restaurant opens for lunch Sundays through Fridays and dinner seven days a week.
