How to word a wedding reception invitation

word a wedding reception invitation

It's interesting:
"Best man speech writing put this challenge into sharp relief: You are not a professional comedian (at least we don't think you are), but everyone at that wedding ..."

While weddings are steeped in tradition that does not mean that there is only one right way to word a wedding reception invitation. That said, there are some tried and true ways of wording a wedding reception invitation that have been popular over the years. Whether you choose a traditional wording or you are more creative, it doesn't hurt to know what has worked in the past.

Things You'll Need

  • Wedding reception invitations

Instructions

    • 1

Start with the word "Reception." The word is often italicized and in slightly larger type than the rest of the invitation, especially on a traditional wedding reception invitation.

    • 2

State the time. The time could be "Immediately Following the Ceremony," or the time could be a specific time.

    • 3

Tell everyone where the reception will be held, such as The Bay View Country Club, 25 Seaview Drive, Long Beach, CA, or The Banquet Hall at the Red Lion Restaurant, 2437 Main Street, Patterson, NJ.

    • 4

Skip a space and then in a smaller type style give detailed street directions to the reception for anyone who may not be familiar with the area.
