Casual wedding reception invitation ideas

Casual wedding reception invitation ideas

It's interesting:
"Wasn’t the wedding ceremony beautiful? The highlight, of course, was Linda floating magically down the aisle. I’m sure we were all thinking exactly the same thing: “How did HE get HER?”"

Send out casual invitations to invite your guests to an informal wedding reception. The invitations let guests know what to expect at your reception, which helps them make decisions such as what to wear. For example, a warm and friendly, casual invitation will let your guests know they shouldn't wear cocktail dresses and suits to your reception.

  1. Wording

    • Use a verse, or write your own, that invites guests with a casual tone. Use the couple's first names, or first and last names instead of their whole names. For example, this verse from Paper and More keeps the invitation casual and simple:

"Love isn't love 'til you give it away . . .

      We, Lisa and James,

      will be married in a

      private wedding ceremony

      on (date)

You are joyfully invited to an informal

      outdoor wedding celebration

      after the wedding at (time)

      (address)

      (city, state)"

If you're using a theme, consider wording that plays off of your theme. For example, if you're hosting a backyard barbecue reception, use western-themed verses on your invitation.

    Font

    • Hand-write the invitations if you have a small guest list and nice writing. Or, choose a fun, casual or bubbly font to print on the invitations. Most formal invitations often use a fancy script or calligraphy, so avoid those styles to keep your invitation casual.

    Graphics, Stamps or Pictures

    • Add a graphic, such as a large butterfly on a flower or overlapping hearts, that complements your wedding theme to the front of the invitation. Make it more personal by adding a picture of the two of you. For example, if your wedding theme is golf related, choose a nice picture of the two of you on a golf course. Or, stamp your invitations with colorful ink and stamps that coordinate with your wedding theme. You can purchase stamps at craft stores or have one custom made for you, such as your initials inside of a heart or your monogram.

    Colors

    • Incorporate your wedding colors into the invitations. Use colorful card stock to print the invitations on instead of traditional white or cream. Or, use colored ink instead of the standard (and formal) black. For example, a lime green and purple wedding could make use of lime green invitations with purple words and graphics.
