If you're planning to get married in Annapolis, Maryland, you'll need to apply for a marriage license with Anne Arundel county before proceeding. The License Department of Anne Arundel's Circuit Court handles the issuing of marriage licenses in Annapolis. After applying for a marriage license, you and your future spouse must wait 48 hours before you can get married. The license is only valid within the county of Anne Arundel and is good for 6 months.

Make sure both marriage license applicants meet the age requirements. Both applicants must be 18 years of age or older. If either the prospective bride or groom is under 21 years old, proof of age must be presented at the time of application. Additionally, you must call the marriage license department of Anne Arundel County at 410-222-1434 if either applicant is age 17 or under.

Gather the following information for both license applicants: full name, age, birth date, birth place, address and Social Security number. You'll be asked to provide this information on the marriage license application. If one of the applicants has been married before, be prepared to give the date and place of where the divorce or death of a former spouse took place.

Prepare the marriage license fee of $55. Acceptable forms of payment include cash and Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit cards- Anne Arundel County does not accept personal checks.

Bring the information that you prepared and the license fee to the License Department located at 7 Church Circle, Annapolis, MD 21401 in room 101. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST. Only one person needs to be present to apply for the marriage license.
