    Hopper Feeder

The elder brother married the girl and his twin brother, filled with remorse, fled across the river and died. An areca tree, bearing heart-shaped nuts, grew in the spot where he died. His twin went in search of him and died in the same place, where he was transformed into a limestone block. The broken-hearted bride collapsed at the same spot and became a betel vine that entwined itself around the block.

    • The wedding procession, known as "the procession to receive the bride," is a time-honored tradition in Vietnam. It is when members of the groom's family present the bride's family with gifts. The groom and his family traditionally carry the gifts in lacquer boxes covered in red cloth to symbolize wealth. Gifts may include wine, fruit, cakes, tea, areca nuts, and betel leaves. Guests present the couple with envelopes containing money, wedding cards and blessings during the wedding banquet. Children sometimes set up "road blocks" and ask wedding guests to pay "tolls" during the post-banquet procession from the bride's home to the groom's home. It is considered bad luck to refuse to pay the "tolls."

    Chalk

    • Vietnamese brides are presented with pink chalk by their future mothers-in-law on the morning of the wedding. This is the color of happiness and represents the young couple's future happiness. By bestowing chalk on the bride, her mother-in-law symbolically paints a rosy future for the couple. The chalk is a purely symbolic gift kept by the bride as a souvenir of her wedding day.

      Locate a sturdy cardboard box to ship the dress. The box should be large enough to accommodate the dress and any packaging that will be used to protect the piece, such as packing peanuts or waded up pieces of paper. The box should also be corrugated to ensure it is strong enough to protect the dress during transit.

      Stuff the sleeves, bodice and skirt of the dress with acid free tissue paper. This will protect the form of the dress during shipping.

Italian Wedding Soup is one of the most classically served Italian dishes in America, next to pizza and spaghetti. Known for its characteristically thin broth, leafy green vegetables and meatballs, the soup is more an American culinary tradition now than an Italian one. The name of the soup is deceiving, however, as it has nothing to do with a wedding party or ceremony.

    • Italian wedding soup recipes vary, but it is generally a thin broth-based soup with meat, green vegetables and some type of starch such as rice or pasta. The name Italian wedding soup only appeared after the soup made its way to the United States via Italian immigrants. However, the soup has a history that predates Italy.

    History

    • Historian Donna Gabaccia claims that Italian wedding soup isn't an authentic Italian dish, but rather was introduced into Italy (Naples) via the Spanish. The name given to the soup in Italy is minestra maritata, meaning "married flavors." The name change came only with the English mistranslation of "married" into wedding. The original name simply meant that green vegetables and meat are flavors that marry well in a soup.

    Ingredients

    • The common ingredients in Italian wedding soup include a thin chicken broth base, a leafy green vegetable such as spinach, kale, endive, or escarole, beef or chicken meatballs or sausages, and optional additions of orzo pasta, rice, small noodles or lentils. Onions, parsley and Parmesan cheese are also often added to the meatballs before cooking.

    United States

    • In the United States, Italian wedding soup is most prevalent in northeastern Ohio and in western Pennsylvania. Italian descendants believe the wedding soup gives energy to a newly married couple, symbolically representing a long sustainable wedding. Nearly every Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh serves the soup.

    Weddings

    • As the name of the soup is an error in translation, it unsurprisingly has nothing to do with weddings. The soup was viewed to sustain and nourish the ill and keep the poor and hungry full longer. The soup was traditionally served as a meal in itself with no other course dishes.

The design on each Chuppah is just as unique as each bride and groom. Chuppahs are handed down, custom-made or a family craft. No matter how a Chuppah comes into being, the design is a reflection of the bride and groom. Chuppahs usually contain elements such as scripture, visual symbols, favorite colors, themes special to the couple and even the bride's and groom's names.

Italian buttercream offers the pastry chef or at-home baker a stable, but light-textured, icing for cakes and cupcakes. Based on Italian or Swiss meringue, the light-colored buttercream is often used for wedding cakes and other pastries that call for white frosting. Many variations of buttercream recipes exist but the basic process for creating them remains the same. While the process is straightforward, it requires attention and preparation.

  • Sugar
  • Heavy-bottomed saucepan
  • Stovetop
  • Uncoated wooden spoon
  • Pastry brush
  • Candy thermometer
  • Egg whites
  • Mixing bowl
  • Stand mixer
  • Whip attachment
  • Butter
  • Paddle attachment
  • Spatula
  • Vanilla
  • Flavorings (optional per specific recipe)

Instructions

    • 1

      Combine the water and three-quarters of the sugar in the saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil and stir to dissolve the sugar. Once the sugar is dissolved, stop stirring. Wipe any drops of sugar-water that spatter away from the interior sides of the pan with a wet pastry brush to prevent them from hardening and creating lumps in the finished frosting. Cook the mixture until it reaches the soft ball stage, or 240 degrees Fahrenheit.

When the sugar syrup reaches 230 degrees Fahrenheit, whip the egg whites in the mixer using the whip attachment on medium speed. Once the eggs are frothy, continue to beat the meringue to medium peaks: the consistency where peaks form but droop slightly when you lift the whip.

      When the syrup reaches the soft ball stage, pour it in a slow, even stream into the meringue while continuing to whip on medium speed. Once the sugar is incorporated, change the speed to high and whip until the meringue cools to room temperature.

    Ceremony

    • Both parties elders decide where the ceremony will take place. Food is very important in Ethiopian wedding ceremonies, and both families are involved in preparing elaborate spreads of food, beer and wine. Meat dishes are especially popular.

    Western Influence
