What is the meaning of the unity sand ceremony

What is the meaning of the unity sand ceremony?

It's interesting:
"During my research - and yes, believe it or not, this was researched - I looked into the three key elements of a wedding day: first, the aisle, the longest walk ..."

The Unity Sand Ceremony is a newer wedding tradition typically used as an alternative to the Unity Candle Ceremony. It represents the coming together (or unity) of the bride and the groom, and their two families, to form a single, indivisible whole.

  1. Features

    • Using two separate vases, vials or decanters of differently colored sands, the bride and the groom pour the sands into a single container--the Unity Vase--while they recite special statements or vows. As the distinctly colored sands merge into the Unity Vase, they form a new color as their grains co-mingle. The Unity Vase is often kept as a memento of the wedding ceremony and kept on display in the couple's home.

    Considerations

    • Because it is a relatively new wedding ceremony, most parishes and congregations do not recognize or permit the Unity Sand Ceremony on the suspicion that it might be a pagan ritual. It is most commonly featured in non-denominational wedding ceremonies typically presided by an officiant rather than a clergyman. As in most newer traditions, it is recommended that interested couples confer with their priests or pastors for permissibility.

    Symbolism

    • Like the Unity Candle, the Unity Sand Ceremony represents the unification of two distinct families, and the separate individuals of the bride and the groom, into a new, single, whole. Unlike the Unity Candle, the Unity Sands are used to symbolize an indivisible union because once merged, the separately colored grains of sand can never be separated.

    History

    • The Unity Sands Ceremony is a relatively new concept, post-dating other similarly newer wedding customs and traditions, largely due to the recent high availability of tinted, dyed and colored sands. While this tradition has found its reference for decades, it has only in the past few years grown into a commercial and cultural phenomenon around weddings in the United States. Often, the custom is used to symbolize the start of a new family because the grains of colored sand may be considered as the symbolic basis for a child.

    Availability

    • Given the commercialization of the Unity Sand Ceremony, most couples will want to confer with specialist wedding boutiques, florists and wedding reception halls for the nearest availability of colored sands, vases, and decanters. In some jurisdictions, the Unity Sand Ceremony Company has a copyright on the performance and display of this practice, though it is rarely enforced.

The salary of a freelance wedding photographer

The salary of a freelance wedding photographer

It's interesting:
"Kick things off with a topical wedding-themed icebreaker, as this will show everybody that you've been thinking about the speech right up to the last minute."

Professional wedding photographers record images for wedding ceremonies and festivities. Photographers are employed to cover everything from preparations to the formal ceremony itself, as well as capture images of guests in attendance. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) classifies all professional photographers within the same occupational category regardless of their particular subject matter. More than half of all professional photographers are self-employed.

  1. Salary

    • According to the BLS, photographers in the personal services industry earn an average mean salary of $47,910 as of 2010. This equates to an hourly rate of $23.03 when divided into the confines of a standard 40-hour work week, but wedding photographers work irregular schedules. Photographers in the personal services industry earn over 25 percent more than the national mean average for professional photographers across all industries, which is $17.30 per hour or $35,980 per year, according to the BLS.

    Industry Salary Comparison

    • Photographers in the personal services industry earn the sixth-highest average wages nationwide according to BLS statistics. Their annual average salary of $47,910 is 32 percent higher than that of photographers in the scientific and technical services industry, which is $32,630 per year. Wedding and personal service photographers earn 40 percent less than the top paying industry for the occupation, the motion picture and video industry. Photographers in that field earn an average $76,210 per year.

    Salary by State

    • The District of Columbia is home to the highest annual salary for professional photographers, who earn an average rate of $56,110. Photographers earn less than $27,000 a year on average in six states, including Alabama, Tennessee, West Virginia, Missouri, Iowa and Kansas. Photographers in New York City out-earn those in all other cities in the United States with an average rate of $26.21 per hour or $54,940 per year.

    Relevant Background and Skills

    • Professional wedding photographers enter the field in numerous ways, and there is no concrete educational path that those aspiring to join the profession have to take. While formal education on photography concepts such as composition, lens principles and light characteristic is helpful, most professional wedding photographers garner experience on the job or in an apprentice role with an established personal photography services firm. A concise portfolio, which captures a photographer's range and skill, is industry standard and is a vital tool used by freelance photographers in soliciting customers.

How to paint sandals

paint sandals

It's interesting:
"Humorous wedding observations ... Traditional outfits * Scottish dress * Marquee * Wedding venue (golf club, castle, barn, posh) * Wedding location ..."

Painted sandals make great gifts, interesting conversation pieces, and may even have potential for sales and profit. Paint will adhere to wood, rubber and leather, and can be used on new or pre-worn sandals. All you need is a few supplies, the right technique and a little bit of creativity. Making your own painted sandals will save money and give you the chance to express your own unique style.

Things You'll Need

  • Acrylic paints
  • Paint brushes
  • Indelible markers
  • Stencils (optional)
  • Dark pencil
  • Eraser
  • Artist palette or Styrofoam plate
  • Acrylic fixative
  • Medium sandpaper
  • Four 1-inch sponge brushes
  • Painters tape
  • Glossy varnish
  • White scrap paper

Instructions

  1. Rubber Sandals

    • 1

Start with clean sandals, new or pre-worn. Hold the sandal on its side and draw or stencil a design with the pencil. Skip the use of the pencil if you are comfortable making a free-hand design with paints.

    • 2

Place your color choices on an artist palette or a Styrofoam plate. Brush colors onto the sandals as preferred. Continue the process around the sides of the sandal. Let dry for a few hours.

    • 3

Embellish your design with indelible colored makers, if desired. Remove pencil marks with eraser when completely dry. Do this carefully. Spray with acrylic fixative to protect the paint.

    Wooden Sandals

    • 4

Scratch off logo with sandpaper, if necessary. Cover the edge of the sole with painters tape, making sure it is all carefully covered. Cover straps with scrap paper and secure it with painters tape. Double check to make sure the paint will not touch any part of the sandals not intended for painting.

    • 5

Apply three coats of paint to the wood. Dry for at least 20 minutes between coats. Let dry at least four hours before embellishing. Use the same design technique as you would for the rubber sandals.

    • 6

Let dry overnight, then apply three coats of varnish over the painted area. Let dry four hours in between coats and after final coat. Remove the protective paper and tape.

Tips &- Warnings

  • To paint stripes, apply pieces of painters tape at 1-inch intervals. Paint a contrasting color between pieces of tape. Remove tape after drying for 24 hours.

  • Apply painters tape to your hand before placing on the sandal. Contact with skin oils reduces tackiness, simplifying its removal from the sandal.

  • Use the width of a piece of painters tape to measure equal distances between tape placements.

  • Use a shoe stripper before painting used leather sandals. Apply with a cloth and rub to remove oil, polish and dirt.

  • Thin coats of paints provide better results than thicker coats.

  • Cover work table with clear plastic or newspaper to protect it from paint spills or damage from the shoe stripper.

What to say for an invitation to a wedding meal reception

What to say for an invitation to a wedding meal & reception

It's interesting:
"There's something special about a church wedding, but most of us here have to admit that we rarely set foot inside a church these days. In fact ..."

Selecting the right wording for your wedding invitation can be challenging. There are several etiquette rules to take into consideration, and you also want the invitation to set the proper tone for the level of formality of your event. Invite guests to dinner and a reception after a wedding ceremony by making it clear on the invitation.

  1. Basic Wording

    • Use basic wording for a traditional wedding invitation that invites guests to a meal and reception following the wedding ceremony. After all of the necessary information about hosts, the bride and groom, the ceremony date, location and time, a simple sentence at the end of the invitation can clue guests in that a meal and reception will take place. All you need to write is, "Dinner and reception to follow." If you'd like to elaborate, simply state the location of the dinner and reception at the end of the sentence, such as "Dinner and reception to follow at the Carlson Towers."

    Reception Only

    • If you plan to get married in a private ceremony and just want to invite guests to a reception and meal, indicate that you are having a meal and reception rather than a ceremony through careful invitation wording. Announce clearly that the ceremony is private, and then include the invitation to the reception. For example, "Please join us for a reception to celebrate the marriage of Lisa and Joe, who were married in a private ceremony on July 22."

    Reception Card

    • Give guests all the necessary details for the dinner and reception by adding a separate reception card enclosed within the invitation. This is especially appropriate if the reception and meal do not take place at the ceremony location. On the reception card, include an invitation to celebrate with the couple, stating that a meal and reception will occur, naming the location, the address and providing a time for those events. This is also where you can list a cocktail hour or a dance if you are having them.

    R.S.V.P. Line

    • Include an R.S.V.P. line with your wedding invitation, or provide a separate R.S.V.P. card if you like when having a meal and reception on your wedding day. By including these features, you will be able to get a better sense of the total number of guests, which will help you determine the amount of seating, tables, food and beverages to have on hand for your meal and reception. An R.S.V.P. line consists of a line addressing for the guest to fill in who will attend. It is also smart to provide a stamp and addressed envelope for guests to return their responses in a timely manner.

How to make a layered wedding cake

make a layered wedding cake

It's interesting:
"There are those who accuse Paul of being unromantic. Well, all I can say, Linda, is that he'll prove them wrong on February 14 when he celebrates Valentine's ..."

Every girl dreams about the day she will walk down the aisle with her true love. Everything about that day will be remembered for the rest of her life, her dress, her family and friends, the food and especially her wedding cake. A wedding cake doesn't have to be over the top, a simple yet elegant layered wedding cake is enough to make any wedding day complete. Follow these steps to make a layered wedding cake she'll never forget.

Add this to my Recipe Box.

Things You'll Need

  • Two 12-inch cake pans

3 boxes of cake mix, any flavor

    Off-set spatula

    Ruler

    Toothpicks

    Buttercream icing

    Filling of choice

    Serrated knife

    Decorator's bag

    Star tip

    Fresh unsprayed flowers, optional

    Cake plate

    Cake topper

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare cake mixes as directed on the package. Bake at 350 degrees or until toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool the cakes completely, overnight if possible.

    • 2

Take one of the cooled cakes and level it with a cake leveler or a serrated knife. Use a ruler to measure the height of the cake, then poke the toothpick in the middle. If the height of the cake is 2 inches, then the toothpick would be inserted at one inch. Do this all around the cake at least one inch apart. Now cut with a serrated knife. This will ensure that the cake will get an even and neat cut. Repeat the process with the second cake. This tip comes from KraftFoods.com.

    • 3

Now that the cakes have been leveled and cut, the layering can begin. Place one of the halves on the cake platter and add some of the filling, this will be the first layer. Place a second cake onto the first. Apply some more filling on the second layer and place the third layer onto the second. Once more filling will be applied to the third layer, place the final layer onto the third.

    • 4

Give the cake a crumb coat using a thin layer of buttercream icing to seal in any of the crumbs that might stray when the final coat of icing has been applied. Refrigerate for an hour or overnight if possible.

    • 5

Using the off-set spatula and the buttercream icing, give the cake a final coat of icing. Make sure there is no shadowing when the icing is applied. Shadowing is when the cake can be seen through the icing, this usual happens on the outer edges.

    • 6

With the frosting complete, the decorating can begin. Fill the decorator's bag with icing and using the star tip, pipe a border all around the bottom of the cake and all around the top edge as well. Arrange fresh flowers around the bottom border or on top of the cake if preferred. Finally, place a cake topper on the cake.

Tips &- Warnings

  • Decorate the wedding cake with icing flowers instead of fresh flowers.

Covering the weding cake with fondant is another option.

How to make a homemade wedding dress

make a homemade wedding dress

It's interesting:
"Even world class comics know what it's like to die on stage, and a wedding ... Nobody wants the soundtrack of their wedding night to be a chorus of loud groans."

Wearing a homemade wedding dress is a great way for a bride to express her individual style. She can create the dress of her dreams with some planning and detailed work. A homemade dress allows a bride to choose a design that flatters her figure, and because it is sewn for a specific person, it can be sized perfectly. Whether a bride does the sewing herself or has someone help her, a homemade dress can be a beautiful choice.

Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Wedding dress pattern
  • Fabric
  • Thread
  • Sewing notions
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron
  • Ironing board

Instructions

    • 1

Decide if you will sew the dress yourself or have an experienced seamstress help you. If you are a novice seamstress, having a more experienced helper can be a boon. If you choose to have a professional seamstress make your dress or plan to ask someone to help you, confirm that she will have plenty of time for your project. If you choose to go solo, schedule time on your calendar for browsing, shopping and sewing.

    • 2

Choose a dress pattern that will flatter the bride's figure and will be appropriate for the formality and locale of the wedding. A skinny bride getting married at an intimate, outdoor service in July will need a different dress than a curvy bride getting married in a church with 500 guests in December. Make sure that the dress design calls attention to the best features of the bride and detracts attention from problem areas. An A-line skirt flatters most figures.

    • 3

Choose the fabric and notions that are recommended for the dress pattern. These will be listed on the back of the pattern envelope. Keep comfort in mind too. A heavy satin wedding dress with a petticoat may not be the best option for a summer wedding unless the venues will be air conditioned. Always buy extra fabric.

    • 4

Take the bride's measurements. If she is between sizes, alter the pattern accordingly. If she plans to lose weight before the wedding, be careful to make the dress for her current size and then alter it accordingly. Fabric can always be removed, but it can be difficult and almost impossible to add. If the bride is pregnant, make sure to cut the dress to her expected size on the wedding date plus one additional dress size to ensure it can be fitted properly.

    • 5

Lay the fabric out and arrange the pattern pieces on it as shown in the pattern instructions. Double check that all fabric is smooth and placed correctly. Pin the pattern pieces to the fabric and cut them out one by one using sharp sewing shears.

    • 6

Sew the dress using the step by step instructions in the dress pattern and iron the pieces as instructed. Make sure to read each step thoroughly before sewing. Be sure to follow them in order. Do not skip around as pattern instructions build upon each other. If the instructions use terms that are unfamiliar to you, double check with a more experienced seamstress or a sewing book. Most sewing mistakes can be corrected by gently ripping out a seam with a seam ripper, adjusting the fabric as necessary and then sewing it again.

    • 7

When the dress is constructed, but not hemmed, iron it again and then fit it on the bride. Have the bride wear the shoes she will be wearing on the wedding day when measuring the hem on the skirt. Decide on any final changes to the dress, pin the dress accordingly, and write down notes about changes to be made.

    • 8

Complete final alterations and press the dress. Fit it on the bride again to make sure it is perfect. Store the dress carefully until the big day.

Tips &- Warnings

  • Make sure to allot plenty of time to sew the dress. An experienced seamstress may be able to whip out a simple wedding dress over a weekend, but a novice seamstress may need much more time. Schedule sewing time on your calendar and plan to have the dress completed a month in advance of the wedding.

  • Make sure that small children and pets are not allowed near the sewing area. Some sewing notions are choking hazards and wedding dress materials are delicate.

Planning a maui wedding

Planning a maui wedding

It's interesting:
"At the wedding rehearsal yesterday evening, I had the pleasure of talking with Linda’s close friends. They talked about how she’s the friend they turn to when they need to vent over a foolish boyfriend or for advice on land the job of their dreams. They also said she has some pretty sweet moves on the dance floor. So let’s see them!"

Maui, Hawaii is one of the most popular locations for destination weddings due to the natural beauty and numerous choices available. Couples can have small, intimate weddings on the beach or huge extravagant affairs. Planning your Maui wedding can be as simple or difficult as you make it.

  1. Set a Budget

    • Before any actual wedding planning can be done it is imperative to set a realistic wedding budget. This is actually one of the most important aspects of planning, as you can decide what details are the most important to you. Maui weddings can be as inexpensive as a few hundred dollars or as much as you have to spend, going well into the tens of thousands (or even higher). Setting aside proper airfare, lodging and $65 for your marriage license should be the first on your list.

    Save the Date

    • When planning a small, intimate wedding, you can always host a reception back home for all of your friends and family that weren't invited to the wedding, or couldn't come. However, if you plan on inviting everyone you know, it is proper to send "save the date" cards so your guests have ample time to save and plan for their Maui trips as well. If possible, include any travel, lodging and local information as you can and set aside time to spend with your guests besides the big day to let them know you truly appreciate them taking the time to make the trip to celebrate with you.

    Choose a Package

    • Unless you live on Maui, it is likely best to hire a wedding coordinator. Many offer package deals that you can customize as necessary, or will build a completely custom package based on your needs and budget. Once you have your budget and date set, you can decide where you want to hold your ceremony. For instance, there are beaches, private estates, historical churches and chapels, hotels, gardens and cliffs. Local wedding coordinators work with many vendors, allowing them to book services for a discount as opposed to you hiring each vendor separately. Some planners may even be able to arrange travel accommodations at a discounted rate.

Beach or ocean front possibilities include public beaches, such as Honokowai Beach, Napili Beach, Makena Cove or Kahekili Beach Park. Public beaches are usually free to use, however a permit needs to be obtained. Kapalua Bay, Ohana Kai Estate, Wailea Marriott Resort, Royal Lahaina Resort and the Maui Prince Hotel are just a few of the oceanfront properties available for weddings.

The Makena Estate, Maui Tropical Plantation, Garden of Eden and Keali'i Nui Botanical Gardens are possible garden locations to host a wedding. Waterfall locations include the Grand Wailea Resort, Westin Resort and the Tropical Gardens of Maui.

Maui also offers many chapels and churches, such as the Kahali'a Aloha Chapel, St. John's Church, Keawalai Church and St. Theresa Catholic Church. Private homes are also available, like the South Maui Estate, Ohana Kai Estate and the Honua Kai Lani Estate. Each place has its own amenities, atmosphere and cost.

Straight bridal hairstyles

Straight bridal hairstyles

It's interesting:
"'I used your site to create my wedding speech. I dropped in lots of clever one- liners and it was a great success. This site gave me everything I needed and more.' ..."

Deciding on a hairstyle for a wedding can be overwhelming. There are so many options, and if you're the bride or a bridesmaid, you want your hair to look sensational. While there are many elegant up-dos, there are also several beautiful looks for straight hair. Straight hair is much more versatile than you might think, and will give the bride or bridesmaids a stylish but laid-back look that is perfect for a more relaxed wedding.

Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Preparation

    • If your hair is in good condition it will be easier to straighten and achieve a smooth look. It also helps to wait twenty-four hours after washing to begin styling, because the natural oils in the hair will help protect it from heat. Have your hair trimmed three weeks before the wedding to eliminate split ends. Adding highlights or low-lights will give dimension to your hair, but you will want to have this done a month or more in advance in case you are not satisfied with the color.

    Basics

    • The most important thing about straight formal styles is to make sure that the hair stays in place and looks smooth. The straighter you can make it, the better. Any frizz, fly-away or kinks will turn the style from formal to casual. Nevertheless, straight doesn't need to mean flat. In addition, your hair doesn't need to be long to wear a straight style. Any hair length that falls below the cheekbones works. In fact, the shorter your hair is, the easier it will be for it to maintain a sleek look.

If your hair is naturally curly, straighten it by dividing it into three-inch sections and then going over it with a flat iron. If it is naturally straight and fine, flip your hair upside-down and blow dry until it is nearly dry, flip it over, brush it and run a wide-barrel curling iron through to give it volume.

    Tools

    • You will need a flat iron or wide-barrel curling iron and a smoothing or straightening product. A heat-protecting product should be used to prevent your hair from breaking. You will need products that keep your hair in place such as mousse, gel and hairspray. Gel and mousse work better with shorter hair lengths but will give a "wet look." Hairspray will keep your hair in place but will still look dry. Remember that if you have already straightened your hair and you put mousse or gel in it, it will go back to being curly.

    Accessories

    • A loose and flowing style is great for a night on the town, but for a formal occasion such as a wedding, it is more appropriate for it to be pinned back. You can use a plain bobby pin if you don't want them to be noticed or you can choose from a variety of decorative clips. Clips come in floral, jewel, and many other designs and in any color that goes with your wedding. A clip behind one or both of the ears is usually sufficient and gives an elegant, yet natural appeal. Tiaras are another accessory that can be worked into the hairstyle.

    Ponytails

    • A straight formal style doesn't necessarily need to be down. This idea can also be translated to the ever-popular ponytail. The basic idea still needs to be applied when pulling this off for a formal event- the looks needs to be polished, smooth and sleek. The straight ponytail works best for longer hair lengths. A great way to give this style a formal and contemporary edge is to take a small section of the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic to hide it, pinning the wrapped strand in place with bobby pins. A ponytail is a good choice if it is humid on your big day and your hair is prone to frizziness.

    The Bump

    • The "bump" can be employed when styling a straight look, but it can he harder to achieve especially when you are trying to keep things smooth and polished. Take a three-or-four-inch wide section on top right above your forehead, twist it, pull it back and pin it with bobby pins. Finish with hairspray to prevent stray hairs.

    Creative Bangs

    • Different bang styles can add to a straight look. Try parting your hair in front so that it is more off-to-one side, and clipping it behind the ear. Take a section of hair from the side of the bangs and pin it over on the other side. Smooth with some gel or hairspray to keep any stray hairs from popping up.

How to make money as a pianist

make money as a pianist

It's interesting:
"At the wedding rehearsal yesterday evening, I had the pleasure of talking with Linda’s close friends. They talked about how she’s the friend they turn to when they need to vent over a foolish boyfriend or for advice on land the job of their dreams. They also said she has some pretty sweet moves on the dance floor. So let’s see them!"

Put those piano lessons you took as a kid to good use to make a little money on the side, or make a part-time business. You may not be playing in Carnegie Hall, but your piano teacher would be proud to hear you tickling the ivories at these money-making gigs!

Things You'll Need

  • Piano-playing skills
  • Suitable sheet music
  • Business cards, flyers, signs, newspaper ads, etc.

Instructions

    • 1

Weddings are the perfect place to make some cash as a pianist. First, you need to put together a nice collection of wedding pieces (Mendelssohn's Wedding March, Pachelbel's Canon, etc.) and memorize them, if possible. Then, advertise. Put ads in the local paper, and leave business cards at wedding halls. Perform for free at a relative's wedding, then hand out business cards at the reception.

    • 2

Holiday parties are another venue where you can find work as a pianist. Again, put together an appropriate set of music that you can play well, then advertise a month or two before the holiday season. Make sure you have a nice variety of pieces--slow, sentimental songs mixed with upbeat, jazzy numbers.

    • 3

Religious services are also a good place to start making money playing the piano. Don't expect to make a lot of money playing in church services, but there are many congregations in need of a good pianist. Check the classifieds for openings, and be prepared to practice specific pieces given to you by the chorister.

    • 4

Finally, the most obvious way to make money as a pianist is as a piano teacher. You don't need to have a Ph.D in music to teach--all you need is a set of books to work from (Alfred's, Bastien, and Schaum are all good). Become familiar with the lesson books and develop lesson plans, then advertise. Flyers at local schools, ads in the newspaper, and signs all work well. Make sure you don't under-charge--call around to find out the going rate, and don't be afraid to ask a competitive tuition.

"It was a stipulation for the wedding that the groomsmen weren't allowed to look better than the Best Man today and I'm pleased to say they have accomplished ..."

Fashion has a way of making its way back into the limelight of future generations. When vintage becomes fashionable again it is inevitable that it will have an influence on the fashions brides wear down the aisle.

Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Ceremonies

    • Traditional North American wedding ceremonies echo many elements from ceremonies of the past. Church weddings were the most popular venue, to honor families' religious beliefs and to bless the union. Rice was thrown on the couple to wish the couple good luck and prosperity

    Fashion

    • Popular in the 1920s, brides wore a bandeau which accented the popular bob style of haircut. The 1940s saw twill gowns and the cowl neckline emerge. Brides wore pure white wedding dresses as a sign of virginity and purity. It was bad luck for the groom to see his bride before their union so brides would wear a veil to cover their faces. When the groom lifts the veil it was a sign of male dominance.

    Gowns

    • Almost every decade has a style of gown that stands out amongst the rest. The 1910s saw long dresses with flowing sleeves of lace. During World War II the flapper style of dress was very popular, it hugged the body with a lose beading or feathers on the bottom, usually ending at the knees. The 1960s saw bridal gowns become shorter and more tight-fitting than some earlier periods.

Outdoor wedding ceremony ideas around lansing michigan

Outdoor wedding ceremony ideas around lansing, michigan

It's interesting:
"I am quite sure that Linda will want to improve Paul a little because that's what wives do. Above all else I hope she'll teach him to entertain in this style and continue this fine hosting tradition."

Outdoor weddings can be intimate and romantic or large and festive, and in a state like Michigan, the weather lends very well to an outdoor venue. Lansing is located in central Michigan, about 90 miles from Detroit and a little more than 90 miles to the banks of Lake Michigan. For an outdoor wedding in and around Lansing, look for beautifully landscaped or rustic gardens, historic homes, lakes and golf resorts.

  1. Garden Wedding

    • The ever-popular outdoor choice is the garden wedding. In Lansing, the Michigan State University Department of Horticulture offers a romantic and charming location for a beautiful garden wedding. There are several different sites within the garden and assistance is available for tents, tables, chairs, linen and lighting and the event coordinator can help you with your event details. A more rustic approach to an outdoor wedding can be seen at the Woldumar Nature Center. The Sunrise Pavilion offers a quiet focal point to a large lawn- the Moon Log Cabin Porch and the Herb Garden are both locations that can seat up to 120. The Pine Forest is an open, shaded area for about 60 guests and the Prairie Path is a secluded, yet sunny space for groups of 50.

How to word the program for a wedding ceremony

word the program for a wedding ceremony

It's interesting:
"Ellen told Keith that by their wedding day she wanted him to have the body of an Olympic swimmer. She was thinking of Michael Phelps, but from ..."

Traditionally, the wedding program was a formal document used to outline the order of ceremony. Nowadays, with brides and grooms wanting to put a unique touch on each element of the wedding, the program can be personalized with photos, anecdotes about the couple and more. Aside from these personal touches, the wedding program should contain some basic information, including an introduction, the order of service, the wedding participants and a thank you to wedding guests.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a title for the wedding program, such as:

Welcome to the Wedding Ceremony of

      Bride

      and

      Groom

      Day, Date

      Time

      Ceremony Location

      City and State

    • 2

List the order of service. Work with your officiant to determine how the ceremony will proceed. This section could include the prelude (the time during which guests are seated), seating of parents, special readings, religious elements such as prayers or blessings, musical selections, vows and recessional (the wedding party's exit at the end of the ceremony).

    • 3

List the names and roles of each of the wedding participants. Include titles such as Miss, Mr. or Dr. for each participant. Use full names, not nicknames, unless your wedding is very informal. Generally, participants listed in the program include parents, grandparents, maid of honor, bridesmaids, best man, groomsmen, flower girl, ring bearer, ushers, officiant, readers and musicians.

    • 4

Close the wedding program with a heartfelt thank you to your guests. This is also the perfect spot for messages such as directions to the reception, tributes to deceased loved ones, a favorite quotation or poem or anything else you would like to say to your guests.

How to make a confederate flag cake

make a confederate flag cake

It's interesting:
"It seems that just a couple of days before the wedding, he chose a tall, striking blonde behind his fiances back. He voted for Boris Johnson on Thursday…"

The Confederate flag was used in the southern flag during the Civil War period in the United States. The symbolic flag is still seen in some areas but it is not in official use anymore. Confederate flag cakes can be made using any size rectangular cake pan and red, white and blue fondant (a type of icing). The cake can be any flavor since it will be covered.

Add this to my Recipe Box.

Things You'll Need

  • Rectangular baking pan, any size
  • White fondant
  • Red fondant
  • Blue fondant
  • Rolling pin
  • Powdered sugar
  • Small star cookie cutter
  • Exacto knife
  • Storage bags
  • White buttercream icing
  • Spatula
  • Cake board or plate

Instructions

    • 1

Bake a cake (any flavor) in the rectangular baking pan. After baking allow the cake to cool for at least 30 minutes before attempting to remove from the pan.

    • 2

Remove the cake from the baking pan and place it on the cake board. Use the spatula to frost cake with buttercream icing, which is available at baking specialty stores. Be sure the cover the entire cake in icing.

    • 3

Sprinkle powdered sugar on a clean, dry surface. The surface should be big enough to roll out the red fondant wide enough to cover the entire cake. Place the red fondant on the powdered sugar and roll it out -- up and down and left to right in alternating motions to spread it out large enough to cover the entire cake. If the fondant sticks to the rolling pin, rub powdered sugar on the rolling pin.

    • 4

Place the fondant on the cake and smooth it out with your hand. Trim the excess fondant from around the bottom of the cake using a utility knife.

    • 5

Sprinkle more powdered sugar on the surface to prepare it for the blue fondant. Roll out the blue fondant. Cut two long strips out of the blue fondant using the utility knife. These strips will be used as the blue "X" that appears on the Confederate flag and should be long enough to cover the top of the cake from corner to corner. Place the strips on top of the cake in an "X" shape. Collect the remaining blue fondant and place it in a storage bag.

    • 6

Sprinkle powdered sugar on the surface to prepare for the white fondant. Roll out the white fondant on the surface.

    • 7

Cut white stars out of the white fondant using the star cookie cutter. An authentic Confederate flag has 13 stars on its face. Place the stars on the cake on top of the blue strips to complete the look.

How to make a catholic mass booklet

make a catholic mass booklet

It's interesting:
"Tradition decrees that the best man responds to the toast to the bridesmaids and I am happy to be asked to do so. Like everything else about this wedding they were perfection itself."

Creating a Mass booklet allows Catholics and non-Catholics alike to follow along with the order of the Catholic Mass. Whether you're creating a booklet for a standard Sunday service or a special Mass like a wedding, the booklet will guide attendees through the liturgy. You can create a template that will apply to any Mass, and you can update specific readings, prayers and hymns based on that week's teachings.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Word processing program
  • Printer

Instructions

    • 1

List the basic Mass information on the first page of your booklet. Include the date of the liturgy and the celebrant's name. If there is a deacon or second priest assisting with the Mass, include his name as well. For a special occasion Mass, you can list additional information, such as the bride and groom's names, on the first page.

    • 2

Create a heading for the Introductory Rites. This part opens up the Mass and includes the opening hymn. List the name of opening hymn, which parishioners will sing as the priest, altar servers and reader process in. Include the hymnal and page number. Under this heading, also list integral parts of this portion of the Mass, which include the Greeting and the Sprinkling of Holy Water. This part concludes with the Gloria. List the page number for that in the hymnal.

    • 3

Create a heading for the Liturgy of the Word. Create subheadings for the First Reading, Responsorial Psalm, Second Reading and Gospel. Underneath these headings, list the reading for that Mass, including the book of the Gospel as well as the chapter and verses. The final subheadings for this part of the Mass should be the Homily and the Profession of Faith. You can put the text of the Profession of Faith, either the Nicene Creed or Apostles' Creed, in the booklet so that attendees can follow along.

    • 4

Create a heading for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. This section includes three subheadings: the Presentation of the Gifts, Prayer over the Gifts and Eucharistic Prayer. Include any specific prayers that will be said during this portion of the Mass, which can vary from Mass to Mass and priest to priest.

    • 5

Create a heading for Communion. If you expect non-Catholics at the Mass, you can explain that the sacrament of communion is reserved for Catholics, but non-Catholics can process through to receive a blessing from the priest or Eucharistic minister. This portion of the Mass begins with the recitation of the Our Father, which you can include in the booklet.

    • 6

Create a heading for the Concluding Rite. Here, the priest will conclude the Mass with a series of prayers. List the prayers in this section, along with any parish announcements that the priest might make during this time.

    • 7

Include any additional information on the final page of the booklet. If the Mass booklet is for a special event, you can include information about a reception or event following the Mass. You can also list the names of the altar servers, readers and Eucharistic ministers here.

"The best way to get a wedding reception crowd on side is too say something nice about the bride ... You could also add that it's been a wonderful wedding so far."

Once upon a time, quilting was a homely craft reserved for blankets and other household items. Then, high fashion took a shine to quilting and created best-selling accessories that feature the diamond pattern. Today, quilted purses are sought-after items of haute couture.

Does this Spark an idea?

Ceremony music for a jewish wedding

Ceremony music for a jewish wedding

It's interesting:
"You may never see a wedding like this one again … not now that they've banned ... 26-Mar-201As an extra special wedding present, I've organized a ..."

For those planning a trip down the aisle, selecting exactly the right tune for the bride to make her entrance to can be a challenge. While many may opt for the old standard Wedding March by Wagner, this is not typically the song of choice for a Jewish wedding procession.

  1. The Prelude

    • Prelude music provides a backdrop for the wedding.

As the guests sit, awaiting the start of the ceremony, it is customary at any wedding to entertain them with a backdrop of soft music. As a Jewish wedding is steeped in centuries old traditions, that can be traced back directly to biblical times, it is right and appropriate to play traditional Jewish tunes to help set the tone for the affair. Some popular favorites include Ani Le Dodi (or I Am My Beloved's), Y'did Nefish (or Companion of My Soul) and Jerusalem of Gold. There are many other beloved tunes that may be included as well, but these are among the most popular.

    The Wedding Party's Processional

    • The wedding procession all builds up to the big moment.

For a Jewish wedding, the wedding procession begins with the seating of the grandparents, followed by the groomsmen. This is followed by the bridegroom being accompanied to the chuppah by his parents. This is followed by the entrance of the bridesmaids, and finally the bride, accompanied by her parents. A traditional Jewish tune, such as Barach Ha Ba (or Blessed is He Who Comes), Hodu L'Adonai Ki Tov (Give Thanks to the Lord) or Ki Le Olam Chas Do (or His Love is Everlasting) is appropriate for the approach of the grandparents, the groomsmen and the groom. A song such as Pachabel's Canon in D is relatively popular for the entrance of the bridesmaids.

A Word About the Wedding March

    • Perhaps one of the most climactic moments of any wedding is when the bride first begins her walk down the aisle, towards her bridegroom and the chuppah under which he stands. In a gentile wedding, the typical soundtrack to this brief walk is Wagner's Wedding March. This is not, however, considered to be an appropriate selection for a Jewish wedding, as Wagner was a known Anti-Semite, and it is believed he was Hitler's favorite composer. There have been hints and suggestions that the Nazi's used to play Wagner's music loudly in the concentration camps as a form of torture. For this reason, it is considered improper to play this march as the bride makes her way down the aisle.

    The Bride's Entrance

    • The bride's entrance is a big moment in the wedding.

In gentile weddings, it is customary for everyone to turn and stand at the first loud strains of the wedding march, to get a glimpse of the approaching bride. The same is not true in a Jewish wedding. For reasons that have long been either forgotten or disputed, the guests are not to stand as the bride approaches at a Jewish wedding.

When the bride begins her entrance, the music should change. The most popular song for a bride to come into is Dodi Li (My Beloved).

    The Recessional

    • Mazel tov is traditional at any celebration.

In contrast to the serious and almost solemn nature of the other parts of the ceremony, the recessional is a joyous raucous time. Started from the moment that the bridegroom smashes the glass, it is traditional to play Mazel Tov, which basically means congratulations. The couple may select something different, but for a traditional Jewish wedding, this is a very safe choice.

Commitment ceremony vs wedding ceremony

Commitment ceremony vs. wedding ceremony

It's interesting:
"I'd like to talk about Paul's greatest achievement, which happened today, and that was keeping his suit jacket on throughout the ceremony and resisting what must have been an intense desire to turn up in shorts today. But despite the heat and discomfort, it’s been well worth the effort, for amongst other things, the wet patch down the length of his left leg can be passed off as sweat."

Rituals and ceremonies are important events in our lives. Among them, the moment we officially proclaim to the world our love to each other as a couple can take the form of either a wedding or a commitment ceremony. The two rituals have many similarities, but also one big difference: the marriage certificate, that legally binding document signed during a wedding ceremony, is non-existent in a commitment celebration.

  1. Definition

    • Thefreedictionary.com defines a wedding as "the act of marrying", while the Macmillan Dictionary defines the commitment ceremony as "a ceremony similar to a wedding for two people who are of the same sex, or for two people who choose not to marry each other." In simple terms, the wedding and the commitment ceremony are public affirmations of a couple's love and commitment to one another in front of a minister, judge or council worker. More common among the gay, lesbian and transgender community who cannot marry legally, the commitment ceremony is becoming increasingly popular with heterosexual couples who choose to commit to loved ones without signing a marriage certificate.

    Types of Ceremonies

    • Both wedding and commitment ceremonies may mean different things to different people. They can be religious or secular events, formal and traditional, or looser and less structured rituals to bless the relationship. Some people plan their big day according to specific customs and rules and go for the the whole package - the church, the wedding gown, and hundreds of guests. Others prefer to celebrate their love by throwing a big party in the back garden, or exchanging vows in the intimacy of a secluded beach. The common thread is the act of exchanging vows and enjoyment of the couple's feelings among close friends and families.

    The Difference

    • Unlike the wedding, the commitment ceremony gives two people the freedom to choose to honor the traditional customs of a classic marriage without having to sign a marriage license. Some couples choose to follow the wedding ceremony ritual, others prefer to invent their own rituals. There are no legal rules and limitations that apply to the commitment celebration and even the couple's close friend can officiate the commitment ceremony.

The Vows and Exchange of Rings

    • In both ceremonies, after the the officiant - priest, judge or friend - welcomes the guests to a celebration of love and commitment, the couple exchanges vows and promises to be a committed or married couple. They may choose the traditional vows of love in sickness and in health, in richness and poverty, till death do they part, or they may write their own vows. The exchange of vows is the central element of both ceremonies. They also guide couples in choosing the theme of the celebration.

After the couple exchanges rings, the officiant announces the union of the two persons and invites the couple to kiss.

In case of a wedding, at the end of procession, the couple signs and receives an official marriage certificate.

    Readings and Music

    • A religious commitment ceremony or wedding usually incorporates hymns and scripture readings focusing on love. A secular ceremony will usually also include music and readings about love, such as poems, passages of literature, personal writing, or pop songs, depending on the couple's personal preference.

    Reception

    • After the ceremony, a reception follows. This can be formal and traditional or casual. A commitment ceremony may also include traditional wedding elements such as the first dance, cake cutting, and bouquet toss, or may just be an unstructured party.

Catholic wedding destinations

Catholic wedding destinations

It's interesting:
"Extended anecdotes at a wedding are like a porn star's professional pride and joy; long, hard and difficult to swallow. There are, of course, exceptions; tales so ..."

When hearing the phrase "destination wedding," visions of barefoot ceremonies on the beach or an exchange of vows in a rose garden probably go through your mind. For brides planning a Catholic wedding, though, these dreams are very rarely fulfilled, if ever. However, having a Catholic ceremony does not preclude the possibility of a destination wedding. By carefully choosing your location and following required procedures, both couple and church can be satisfied with the result.

  1. Where

    • The big question when planning any destination wedding is where to have the event. For Catholic couples, one option is to choose from countries where Roman Catholicism is widely accepted or even considered the primary religion. Countries like Mexico, Greece and Italy fit that description and are very desirable destinations for a festive celebration. You could also begin by speaking with your local priest about recommended locations. Keep in mind that the destination does not have to be out of the country. Many brides instead choose somewhere in the states with a tropical atmosphere such as Florida or Hawaii.

    Preparation

    • There are several steps to follow when planning any Catholic ceremony, but it is almost always more involved when the venue is not within your local parish. In addition to completing premarriage classes (Pre-Cana), you must also receive permission from your priest to marry in another church. All of the paperwork must then be sent to the church at your destination of choice where you will be married. It is important to look into your chosen location's time line for receiving paperwork as the requirements for advance notice at various religious venues can vary anywhere from 30 days to six months prior to the desired wedding date.

    Marriage License Laws

    • It is also imperative to check into the country or state marriage laws. Many foreign countries require a civil ceremony at a courthouse in addition to your Catholic ceremony. For example, couples planning to marry in Mexico must choose to either have a judge perform the civil ceremony at home to make things official before their trip or to meet all of the requirements after they arrive. They'll have to agree to and participate in an additional ceremony at a courthouse in Mexico immediately before or after their religious nuptials. Some places will even request a letter from your local priest verifying both parties' unmarried status before holding a Catholic ceremony in one of their churches.

    Reception

    • Just because you may not be able to have a wedding on the beach or at a romantic villa does not mean that your reception cannot be held in one of these locations. Consider choosing a resort or other venue near your chosen destination church for the celebration after the ceremony. Since there are no church guidelines on wedding receptions, it is a great way to make the most of your outdoor surroundings. Your ceremony might not have been on the beach with the sunset in the background but the party afterwards can be. The important thing is to celebrate your official Catholic union in a way that best represents you and your new spouse.

Cheesecake wedding cake ideas

Cheesecake wedding cake ideas

It's interesting:
"Click on a category below. Links to your chosen speeches will appear in the viewer on the right. Speech 6 in the category 'Childhood friend' under the heading ..."

There are many ways that couples can put their own personal style on their wedding. This includes the centerpiece of the reception --- the wedding cake. For those who prefer to include a bit of their own flavor into the festivities, the perennial favorite cheesecake can be used in place of a more traditional cake. Just like any other cake, these come in different sizes and can even be layered for a dramatic presentation.

Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Layers

    • Traditional wedding cakes set each layer upon the other, but a cheesecake wedding cake may also use a cake stand to feature each layer separately. These can graduate in size just like a traditional cake, but because they are not placed flush against each other, you can add fruits, glazes and toppings to each one. Plump ripe strawberries can symbolize the romance of your day, or complementary chocolate flowers will dazzle against the rich cream color of the cheesecake.

    Flavors

    • Typical flavors such as plain cheesecake or fruit toppings may be replaced with more decadent flavors, such as rich white chocolate or elegant liqueur infused flavors like bourbon vanilla or Kahlua. Experiment with different colors, such as a vibrant green with a key lime cheesecake, or red raspberry swirls. Graham cracker crusts may also be replaced with other crusts, like butter cookie or chocolate, or crusts can also be made out of hazelnuts.

    Shapes

    • More traditional cheesecake layers tend to be perfectly round, but you might choose to experiment with more atypical shapes of cheesecake pans. Try a square pan for a box design in various sizes for a bold layer cake. This allows you to use darker colors for a more dramatic presentation. For a single layer cake, opt for a romantic heart shape and cover with lovely chocolate roses or red, ripe strawberries covered in a rich, chocolate glaze.

    Sizes

    • The size of cake you select will depend on the number in your reception party. For a smaller, more intimate reception, you may decide on smaller, individual sized cheesecakes. Mix and match your flavors and colors, with different fruits as a garnish. Another fun and fashionable option are trendy cheesecake cupcakes that are grouped together in an overall wedding design with similar colors, icing or garnish. This allows you to mix and match flavors. You may also decide to keep things more uniform, with a simple and elegant design that repeats for each and every cake, like tiny gift boxes.

How to make a bouquet with tulips peonies

make a bouquet with tulips & peonies

It's interesting:
"Linda is an extraordinary woman. Resilient and fun-loving. If anyone had told me Paul would find a woman who loves gourmet cooking, travelling to exotic places and debating the merits of the Arsenal back four as much as him, I wouldn't have believed them. Yet here she is. You two are going to have quite a life together. "

Peonies and tulips are spring flowers that are colorful additions to wedding, prom and presentation bouquets. Tulips can be combined with other flowers in any type of bouquet, from a sheaf to a cascade bridal piece. Peonies have such thick stalks that they hold up well in a hand-tied bouquet. The ruffled peony blossoms add a feminine touch to the elegant look of tulip flowers. The pink, white and lavender blooms will match with red, yellow, pink, white and variegated tulip flowers.

Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 5 peony flowers
  • Clippers
  • 11 tulips
  • Sharp knife
  • Elastic band
  • Floral tape
  • Ribbon or lace
  • Fabric shears
  • Corsage pins

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the peony stalks to an 8- to 12-inch length using a pair of floral clippers. The cut should be made straight across the bottom of the stem.

    • 2

Tulips in bud should be chosen for a bouquet.

Cut the tulip stems to a length that matches the peony stems with a sharp knife.

    • 3

Hold a peony in your hand. Hold a tulip at a slight angle and place it next to the right side of the peony. Add three more tulips, one at the top, left and front side of the peony. Wrap an elastic band around the stems to keep them in place.

    • 4

Place a peony at an outward angle on the right side of the tulips. Add peonies to the top, front, and left side of the flowers you've already secured together. Secure the entire bouquet with another elastic band.

    • 5

Hold the bouquet in your hand and add tulips around the outer edges of the secured flowers. Tulips will naturally bend downward. Look at the bouquet in a mirror as you place the tulips so you can see how the arrangement looks from all sides.

    • 6

Wrap the end of a roll of floral tape around the stems in the area where you will naturally hold the bouquet. Wrap the tape around the stems to bind them all together. The tape is non-adhesive but sticks to itself when you pull it tightly on an angle. Wrap the tape around the stems several times. Tear the end off at a downward angle and smooth it against the wrapped tape.

    • 7

Wrap ribbon around the stems to cover the floral tape and elastic bands. Insert three to five pearl head corsage pins into the ribbon to secure it in place. The pin should be inserted with the sharp points positioned up or down into the center of the stems. You can tie or glue the ribbon in place for two other options.
